Hey everybody! As I've never owned an Emerson, I only come in here to read up every now and then. But this past weekend I became the proud owner of an Emerson Mini-Commander! A co-worker of mine asked if I was interested, and surely I said yes! He isn't a knife nut, and he said he picked it up at a pawn shop a while back but wasn't getting any use out of it. So about 50 bucks later, she's mine!

I can tell right off the bat that this thing was a user for one of it's previous owners. I was just wondering if you guys could point me in the direction of someone on here who could give this thing a proper cleaning/sharpening. I plan on using it as well, seeing as how Emersons have always piqued my interest, but have somehow remained out of my price range.

Are any of you guys on here good at sharpening these? And taking these stains off? There is a noticeable chip near the tip of the blade. I just want to get this bad boy back in fighting shape, and would gladly slide someone a few bucks if they think they can help me out. Seeing as how I'm not the original owner, and I'm not familiar with the Emerson warranty, I doubt I'd be able to send it in for the spa treatment. Here are some pics for you guys.

Here is the slight chipping of the blade.

I was able to get her fairly centered.

The f&f on this thing is still great, regardless of the user wear.

I appreciate you all taking the time to read this, and for any advice you may give me. I look forward to having more of a presence in this sub-forum. Most of my collection is comprised of Kershaws and Bucks, so I am truly excited to own an Emerson.

Send it to Emerson, they will take care of it. There is a service form on the website that you can fill out and send in with the knife, give them a call if you have questions about the form, or are concerned about not bein the original owner. I think the spa treatment is about $45 and replaces the washers screws clips and gets it sharpened. Shipping costs suck though, about $15.

It looks like its in good shape other than needing a cleaning and sharpening. You can take it apart without voiding the warranty, and the blade will probably clean up well with some WD-40 and elbow grease. I'd give this a try and see how it comes out before sending it in. If you aren't up for sharpening it, Emerson will do that and it will be cheaper than the spa service.

Congrats on your first Emerson!

Good score and congrats on your first Emerson!

Now go clean that blade up and put your own character marks on her.

First of all if you offered that knife to me for $50 I would be all over and pay your shipping.

Get some flitz polish and a old T-shirt and 30 minutes later you won't recognize that thing. -Also this will take up a LOT less time than packaging and going to the PO to mail in.

If you are not familiar with sharpening your own knives go to Youtube and see the spyderco V sticks. Then et a used one on the exchange. You need to sharpen your own blades anyway.

Great first Emerson. My M-Com is in my pocket right now. You got a great deal also!

Thank you guys for your comments and great advice! I really appreciate all the insight :D
