Need Help! Got Sheet Metal Shear?

I'm tryin' to attach a magnetic knife bar to my kitchen wall. I need
two strips of sheet metal to use as "straps" to screw or bolt the bar to a peice of flat wood, which will then be screwed to studs in the wall. I can't seem to find pieces of sheet metal of the right dimension. The two pieces need to be exactly 3/8" in width, by 6" long. My wife used my tin snips to make a Guinea Pig cage and ruined the edge, so I can't cut sheet metal to the desired width. The gauge is not critical, a gauge similar to plumbers tape is fine. Something that will bend to wrap around the spacers in the bar. Attached is a photo of the magnetic bar.

My plan is to use the thin strips to wrap around the spacers between the two bars and screw or bolt them to a backer board. This way the surfaces of the bars will be completely clear to contact knives over the full length.

Can some good samaritan with a sheet metal shear cut me a couple of strips? I can send a self addresed stamped envelope. Again, I want two strips 3/8" wide by six inches long. Black steel is fine (I'll paint it) or stainless.

double sided tape? I at one time was into model airplanes. I had interest in the smal c0-2 powerd motors and the little screws used to mount were frustrating... until at a modeling show a manufacturer showed me the tape trick.... I never thought it would have worked till I saw it !

Eager,

Check out your local metal supplier. They should have 3/8th inch flat stock. Most places will cut it to the length you need free. Total cost should be under $5.

The only downside is you might have leftover steel to figure out how to use. (Check to see if they have a scrap bin with sizes close to what you need.)

email sent. Thanks KennyC. I really need to hang-up my Shinichi Watanabe Santoku, Messermeisters and MAC kitchen knives, and with all due respect, double-backed tape was not going to do it.

Glad you got the strips, but we want pics of the Watanabe blade! His work is amazing.
