I keep getting conflicting info on this sword with AI searches. Any help identifying would be appreciated.
I purchased this sword for a reasonable price so I’m not going to be disappointed if it is not a Hatori Hanzo. Thanks in advance BF

It may have been a gunto WWII officer’s sword. The scabbard has been damaged and painted.

Thanks. Yeah I think so to but unsure about the Mei. Steel appears to be stainless although on the nakago there was slight rust. I left it alone as I read to do so. Thanks for your response.

Here is another one no markings. From my father in laws grandparents who are of German descent. It was wrapped with an m1873 bayonet early WWI issued to the home guard20260301_143803.jpg20260301_143821.jpg20260301_143837.jpg20260301_143916.jpg20260301_144033.jpg20260301_144028.jpg20260301_144024.jpg

From your description of the provenance, likely a bring back from WWI. These were generally Forrester hirschfanger type hangers meant to dispatch game. Bayonet blades on old fashioned hilts was not uncommon and kind of standard practice by 1900. Game wardens. Possibly a war time composite but it does not strike me so.

Cheers
