Hello… This is my first post on bladeforums.com, so I apologize if I’m not doing this correctly. However, I inherited the pictured knife from my grandfather who used to be a traveling sales representative for Buck knives. I believe he did so somewhere between the 1950s and 70s.

At any rate there is no date stamp or other identifying mark on the knife, other than the word “Buck” on the one side as pictured. I cannot find anything on Buck Knives’ website that shows the same profile with the top of the knife blade being serrated along the curved section.

I would love to know more about this knife to include the date/period of time it was made, the name and purpose for its use, and if there is a sheath currently made to fit it. Its length over all is 10”, and the blade is 6”.

Thank you so much for providing any information possible, or advice on how to obtain said information.

Razsmom, welcome to the forum. We would love to see your knife but the photo isn't showing.

Type in "121 scaler" in the search bar then click onto this discussion "No Membership Required---Let's See Your 121's". It will most likely have your information.

Hi... thanks! I am trying to figure out how to post a picture on this site. I was on my iPad when I set up the account and now I'm on my laptop as sometimes not all features are available on Apple devices. I did just upload the picture of my knife to my flickr account, so I guess that I will post the web link to it. If you have a better solution, I'd love to hear it!

OK folks, I really appreciate you taking the time to read my post and I hope that you will come back to it. I have a lot going on at the moment and I have tried uploading my Flickr album of the knife and it still will not show up on this forum. So I need to research it some more (evidently) and try it again. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong as I copied the link from my Flickr account to the add photo from outside link option, and it still does not appear. I am in the middle of something at the moment, so I will try this again later on tonight. So sorry...

It sounds like a vintage Buck 121. Look on e-bay under "vintage Buck 121". There is now one listed. These are very collectible and not easy to find.

You were spot on about the model knife I inherited! I sent an email attachment picture of my knife to the History Department of Buck Knives, and they did inform me that it is a “model 121 Fisherman, a filet knife with top serrations to remove fish scales. The blade is made of 440C steel and the handle is black phenolic. The guard and pommel are made of Dural (aluminum) and the spacers are bone hard fiber. The knife was made sometime between 1964-1966. In 1967 there was a change to the fine blanked blades from forged blades and it was denoted with a dot following BUCK on the blade stamp. Later in 1967, the serrations were removed. It would have come with a sheath...”

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my question! I apologize that I was not able to figure out how to post an image. However, time was short for me yesterday and I am dealing with some life-threatening medical problems at the moment, so I can’t really afford to take anymore time to do so.
