What makes you think the design was copied from anyone? Its just a cheap generic tacticool knife from China.....

$25 from china is what made me think that, as most cheap knives from China are knock-offs from successful knife makers.

I wouldnt say its tacticool, as it has a wood grip and leather sheath. Id say its more western aesthetic with an asian blade profile

Welcome to Bladeforums pabladeguy7.

The knives you mentioned (first picture below) look pretty original to me (sort of a "tanto bowie"). At least I can't recall ever seeing any production knives that look just like them. There might be some similar custom knives out there. It's certainly possible for the Chinese to come up with a few somewhat unique designs. Not an easy task since just about every design that someone could come up with has likely been done already by someone.

Here is one production knife that is similar, though clearly not identical. It's called "Tanto Strike" and it's from Kukri House. It costs several times the Huaao knives.

That is not correct at all. Some Chinese knives are knock-offs, but there are many more that aren't. In fact, some Chinese companies hire designers to design original knives for them. As to that, virtually anybody can sit down with a paper and pencil and design a knife if they have a mind to. Chances are it will look at least a bit like something thats already been made by somebody else.....and that does not mean its a knock-off or design stolen from someone else.....

Welp if this is truly an original design i dont mind buying it from amazon... i just thought at that price it HAD TO be a rip off.

I see your point. Just the fact of the price point, plus if you click on their page they have knock-off benchmades for sale on there for the same price. Leads me to be very doubtful its an original design.... i could be wrong though

Chinese knives are cheap because of the way things are done there. They can make a knife and sell it for $100 when the same knife made elsewhere might be three times that. Right or wrong, thats the way it is......

That looks like an Americanized tanto blade profile to me, which is not an Asian blade style at all

Maybe we should rename this thread rather than simply assume it's a ripoff if it hasn't been proven to be the case. (I'll take care of it.)

The Japanese have been using that blade shape for a very long time, well before Emerson and the others "invented" it. Google edosaki......

Just want to thank everyone for enlightening me that it is possible that a cheap knife from China does not mean it’s a ripoff. While this truly may be the case with this knife… I still have a strong suspicion that it is for the simple fact that the same seller on Amazon is selling ripoffs of knives like the benchmade bugout. Just like you wouldn’t trust the guy selling you the knock off Rolex’s to also sell you a genuine original watch. This may forever be a mystery haha

Well, since we're not in the business of promoting clones here, and amazon is not one of our supporting dealers, and that we may never know if there is even another "source", let's just move along and call this one a wrap.
