Greetings,

I picked up these 2 stones recently and with a bit of research looking at various pictures on the web I think the larger one is perhaps Washita. The smaller one is quite soft. If anyone has a clue please let me know.

Thank you!

The larger one does look like an Ark. The smaller one is harder to say, both due to all of the various natural stones that were globally traded, AND the scratches all over it that conceal its natural appearance. But it's probably some form of silicious sedimentary stone, and looks pretty fine-grained.

The smaller one is a bit of a mystery as the description doesn't match what it looks like.

The larger one is a vintage Washita and will likely pass some light should you set a flashlight on its surface. Soaking it in Simple Green for a few days to a week or so will return it to white and remove the old oil that has soaked in should you want to.

If you want to get rid of that smaller stone give me a yell.

Thank you Garry, I might just do that with the Washita.

As for the “turquoisy” smaller one, I still haven’t found out what it is. I did a test with a straight razor (which I killed the edge first), used the washita followed by the mystery smaller stone and a stropping…It gave me a tree topping hair edge. I’ll shave with it tomorrow to know for sure.

Thanks guys for your help, I appreciate it. I tried a straight razor off of the small stone this morning (plus stropping) and it felt great. The small size will be great to bring along on trips.

More likely is something like Vermont green slate. But there's a bunch of different kinds of stone it could possibly be with that appearance.
