I have searched hundreds of knives and cannot find anything online that even closely resembles this knife that I found in the shed. Can someone here that knows these knives better than I do please help me to identify this.

Looks like a homemade handle mod. Reminiscent of the Theater knives of WW2.

Others will soon chime in who know more than I.

Can you include a close up pic of any tang stamps?

Gunsil!! Zzyzz!! Where are those fellas? That's a real cool find there Dan. I would be STOKED to find something like that laying around the rat and possum orgy that is my shed. Hope you find out some info there bud. We'd all love to hear about it if you do..

I'll second what was said that looks to be a rehandle. I'm not an expert by any means but the finish and the style is very reminiscent of rehandle I've seen before.

Where have I been? Cooking 500+ hamburgers at Eeyore's Birthday Party all day. :D

That looks like a rehandle job, probalbly of a Mk2, but it's hard to tell the size of the knife from the picture. Definitely not a handle from the Union Cutlery factory.

He was tasty. :D

BAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!

But seriously, Dan that to me looks, as the others have said, something like a good old 1217 that's been rehandled. It's the year of manufacture that has me intrigued. You say there's only one stamp on it? Guys does it look as though the handle may have covered up the stamp on the other side perhaps? Are there any defining grind lines (swedge, belly etc.) that may determine year of manufacture? I'm seriously curious because whoever rehandled this blade sure as shit did a superb job and looks like they knew what they were doing. Love that pommel..

thanks for all of the replies everyone. my next question is does anyone here want to buy it lol. I am not a collector and would rather sell it to someone that would appreciate it :)

Pictures could be better for trying to lock in on this knife, but from what I can see, the sheath looks like one of the variety of known WW2 era type. Examples of the 1219C2 pattern knife with only the name KA-BAR and no branch of service are a known variety. They aren't the most common. Unfortunately I don't know of anyway to say for certain when it was re-handled. Sometimes the material used can provide clues but not always. Too bad, there's probably a story behind this one, but don't think anyone is talking.

Friendly heads up, only paid supporters of the forum are allowed to sell on bladeforums and even then only in the exchange section.
