Need help identifying this khuk

seems like a nice little unit. 13 in?

the blade shape is very similar to the Gorkha Army 124 tourist khuk that started me down the path to HI. Not great steel, but not all that bad.

I DO like antler/bone handles though.

Surely a user. And it looks very nice.

I have a rough village model that has much the same blade profile.

JDP, i think, had a pix somewhere, maybe the HI FAQ,

that identified this profile as being an issue model

of some period circa 1930-1950 (I misremember?).

I can't do a search at this time,

but I'm sure others will have a more detailed answer.

Thanks.
Any ideas on the material used on handle, do you get grain lines like that on bone?
PS: Its around 16.5 inches .
Yaj.

Hi Yaj,
Well its not military! so that means it is civilian, it looks very recent in style, the grip is most likly bone, but would need clear closeups of grip to be 100% sure.{feel free to email them}
Following this process of deduction I think it is either a tourist or a villager, does it take a good edge? & cope with hard use {hard chopping & slapping of a dry log with it?} or do the handle cracks get worse & the blade blunt, bend or twist? if it passes those tests you have a good user if it doesnt, you bought a tourist kuk!
sorry I cant be any more help,

Spiral

Yaj,

No help on the id'ing, but a word of caution on extreme testing of bone handles. I've had one break open completely when I hit seasoned wood with it. It had a REAL crack in it, much bigger than what I see in your pictures, but you still might want to be careful. Wouldn't want you to end up with NEITHER a user NOR a decoration.

Aardvark/spiraltwista,
I've tried it out on some 2x4s , its held out fine so far. There arent any cracks on the handle even on close inspection, they are more like grain lines.
Thanks,
Yaj.

Appears to be polished bone and of very recent manufacture. I would be very wary about any heavy duty chopping as these grips are notorious for cracking or coming apart.

Definitely for the tourist trade.
