Need help identifying this piece

A friend gave me this to restore. I have not seen one like it. There are no names or numbers on it. It has original red paint on the handle so I am wondering if it was used by a forest fire crew? Anyway, if its an adze, its definitely not a Fire Fighter tool.
My first impression a Shipwright or deck/flooring tool.

Thanks. You are right about the pictures sucking. I just looked up shipwright adze. That's exactly what it is.

The poll looks awfully heavy for a shipwright's adze. And it doesn't have an adze eye, it's more like a drift pick eye. I'm thinking it's something from the railroad or mining industry. I've never seen that configuration.
