Need Help Identifying This....

This was left in my Father's garage when he bought his house some 45 years ago. At that time the house was 40-45 years old...the seller was a builder and built the garage, and lived in it until the house was built (a Sears kit house)...

The inside of the hook is sharp (sort of) and the outside is blunt. Below the hook is sharp (sort of). Seems like a strange bird...but it must of had a purpose.

What part of the country is it from? It looks sort of like some old lumberjack log tool I have seen but that is just a wild guess.

New York, about 15 miles north of NYC.

With 4 brothers, I am surprised it survived our youth....
 
Not sure but it might be used to assist in rolling logs....
 
There isn't a spike to bite with therefore I don't think you could even log roll with it if you wanted to. But i thought the same thing at first too.

It is a bush axe that has been sharpened down to almost nothing. The inside and the ouside of the curve is sharpened. Heres what it would have looked like new

The upper strap was put on so you did'nt sling the head off and hit an innocent by stander while you were cutting weed along the roadside in a chain gang
 
i thought those were used for moving bails of hay ..... or opening up old food crates/slats..... no idea but i swear i have seen them before....
