Need help identifying/valuing this Spyderco Worker.

So, my Dad gave me this Spyderco Worker for my 16th birthday, back in 1995. As the story goes, he owned a gun store in the 80's and got this knife from a Shot Show in Vegas in 83/84 time frame. Maybe before, maybe after. He said the Spyderco booth had a huge line of people to buy their diamond sharpening stones, and they were "giving away these folders as a promotion." Not sure if that part is true, but that's the story.

I was wondering if someone knew anything about these folders and could help my identify it.

From my research online (which is amateur), I don't think this is the original folder because it had 3 screws instead of 2 on the clip and the head of the clip is not flat. Also, in my searches, I've never seen another Worker that was both serrated and double-edged, leading me to believe it might be semi-unique.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lastly, yes it's pretty scratched up and no I don't carry it as I don't want to put anymore scratches on it.

Thanks all!

I would say your time frame is fairly accurate 84-86. As for being double edge it's actually not or shouldn't be. The false edge near the tip of the blade was designed so that you could cut string or something like that without fully opening the knife.

The tip portion of the spine was a sharpened false edge on early Workers, including some that were 3 screw and serrated. Spyderco changed that to an unsharpened swedge grind after a few years due to issues with the Worker's blade being considered double edged since that made it illegal to carry in some areas and illegal to own in others.

I see more variations of the early workers now then in the 80's an 90's. A three screw with no lanyard hole. Now, I need to find another one.

That's a nice knife you can never sell. Given it to your kid or family sure but never sell.
