All,

Can anyone help me identify the model name (or number) & year of manufacture of a knife I've inherited. I know the owners story but he died so I can't ask him. Here's what I have:

1) purchased in 1941-42 just prior to enlisting in the Army Mountain Corps
2) handles are leather (or imitation) with red/black/gold stripes at base, top & middle of the handle
3) tang markings are:

W E S T E R N
BOULDER, COLO.

&

PAT. NO.
1,967,479

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Your description of the knife could also describe just about every Western fixed blade made in the last 60 years. Can you post a digital picture of the knife or email one to me? If so, I can probably tell you what model of knife you have. Specific dates of manufacture of a given knife is pretty much impossible to determine, but a range can often be given. I am happy to try to help, but you need to give more information and a picture would be best.
