I'm not sure if this knife has been re-profiled either, it seems as if there is decent steel left and the curvature is mainly for ergonomics. The green oxidation from the button on the sheath should clean up, it was stored in the sheath for many years. Would anyone be able to recommend a product or method for removing the oxidation without damaging the scale material, leather, and steel?

I had a feeling this was an old knife, predating stacked leather washer handles?

Thanks for any and all information

Hi NS, your knife is a model 176 which only appears in folder #31, and is the wood handled version of the more popular model 676 which is the same knife with jigged bone handles. It did not pre-date leather ring handles and was KA-BARs version of the popular "outer's" pattern knives of the time. It was made sometime between 1932 and 1934, and if it was in better condition you would have never got it on ebay. The green junk will simply wipe right off the scales with a paper towel, and you can use "Nevr-Dull" to safely remove the green stuff from the guard and the button snap. The blade is in pretty nice shape, but there is no good way to make it shiny again without buffing which serious collectors would rather not see. See if you can send me a PM, I'm not sure if your member status will allow you to. It seems I am not allowed to send you a PM, likely because you are not a paid member.

Happitch semichrome polish works good with a little elbow grease. I would do just one appliction to clean but not thouroughly remove the patina.

Simichrome has a mild abrasive in it and most serious collectors would prefer it weren't used to clean anything. NevrDull has no abrasives but will not remove the blade patina, only the green crud. Some folks like shiny knives, serious collectors prefer original condition and blade patina is better than shine. If you wish to clean it for a user have at it with the simichrome, if collecting leave the blade alone.
