Picked this Balisong up recently from a 70+ year old gentleman who said he brought it home from the Phillipines after WWII. The blade resembles the Gutmann Cutlery Original Balisongs, but the handle has horn bolsters, and clear lucite with pink background. Also, there are circular patterns under the lucite. The lucite looks just like the material they put on the WWII theater knives, the ones GI's used to make themselves. The latch is aluminum, and the liners are brass channel. The pins that hold on the bolsters are copper. Also, there is little "v"'s notched in the latch and on the spine of the tang. Appreciate any information anyone may have on this knife.

you accidently put "www." in the beginning of the URL. Just thought I'd help you on your way.

Spaced out knife, by the way.

lockstock...Thanks for the help. What can anyone tell me about the knife? Is it WWII vintage? Does that make ir any more desirable?

Lew, that looks just like mine. Sounds like these are from the WWII era. What price range do they fall into? They are crude compared to BM' and PC's, but are novel.

Thanks

It sure looks like a classic FHM. It's hard to tell from this picture, but the blade appears to be polished. That's a bit uncharacteristic of WWII era FHMs. The polishing may have been done later. In excellent condition, FHMs of this nature are generally valued at $75 - $150.

Gollnick, Thanks. The blade finish shows the grind lines similar to a crocus finish you would find on older knives (1920-1940's), but it is bright as it does not look like it was used. The only issue with the knife is: it has a small chip out of one of the rear horn bolsters. The person I got this from had another one in similar condition, but smaller in size, and with smooth bone handles with little slits radially across the handles. Little pieces of a darker bone were placed in the slits however, many of the pieces were missing. I may pick it up anyway.
