Hey everyone, new to the forums here... I just got a new knife and Im having trouble w/ its identity. Its pretty much he same as the Camillus Marine Combat knife #5684, from what Ive been able to find, just without the black phosphate coating. I dont have a sheath for it, Ill probably just make one...The stamp on the bottom of the blade says
_______
Camillus
_______ <---------Pretend theres no space there
New York
U.S.A.
There are no markings on the opposing side either (like USMC, or Olean NY or anything like that), from what I can see, although the blade is pretty beat up edgewise. Theres probably no way I could make it functional again with just a stone. Ill see if I can put up some pictures although I dont have a very high res camera at the moment... Just my cell phone... I was really wondering hold old it could be... Im not interested in selling it as it was a gift from my Dad, Im just really curious. Im going to use it as my knife for when Im in the woods; it looks pretty sturdy and dependable to me... Anyone got any info? Thanks! .
BTW, I just tried to post some pictures and it says that I can post attachments... Whats up with that? Anti spam thing for newbies?
Okay, a quick update...
When taking a much closer look at this knife in better lighting conditions Ive been able to see that it probably was definately at one time covered with the black phosphate coating, but only little bits of it are now, and barely at that. The only thing that still is bugging me a little is the absence of the USMC or Olean, NY stamps that I see on all the others Ive found online...That and the blade is just a hair or two short of 7 inches, bu that could be from alot of sharpening right? Could it be a reproduction? And if so, is it still a good knife?
