Need help in choosing right one first time

Hi guys, first time poster. Asking for help in choosing a quality folder that I can carry at work, without being accused of carrying a weapon. Yeah, I know about box-cutters, but hey.

Prefer a blade, non-aggressive, of 3.25" or less to replace my old short-bladed Gerber. BG42, VG10, 154CM etc would be choice of blade steel. Slidelock assumed but willing to listen. Can spend $150 or so. Likely want combo blade, satin. Want pocket clip, not sheath with clip.

So far, thinking about Wm Henry carbon fiber (altho no combo blade and pocket clip simultaneously), BM Elishewitz 690S (first choice at this point), BM770, Camillus EDC with D2 blade, M16 carbon fiber combo blade from CRKT. Maybe Spyder Native with new VG10 if available. I guess Emersons are not all that smooth from what I read here. Also strong lock so won't close on my little pinkies.

Anyway, thanx for reading. Holler at me with your comments.

Why do you want a combo blade on such a small knife? I think they really just get in the way. Do you really use serrations that much? A properly sharpened plain edge will cut almost everything better than a serrated edge.

Best bang for the buck is the Camillus EDC or the Outdoor edge
Paragee. Both are excellent knives for the money at a very affordable
price.

Another thumbs up for the Camillus EDC. I still can't get over this knife, it simply beats everything else at that price.

Of course I don't need to throw the sales pitch at you, just do a search on all the blades you mention and read dozens of threads about them.

The knives you listed are very good choices. I love the Benchmade axis lock. I think any knife from them that meets your size requirements would be fine. I really like the McHenery Williams a great knife. The handle is very comfortable in hand. Although, I've never seen or handled a cabon fiber version. The Osborne in carbon fiber is a great little knife.

The Camillus EDC (don't have one) but I do have a Maxx and the frame lock is very strong. Quality is very high. The only and very small complaint that I have on the Maxx and it may be an issue with the EDC is that the handle is kinda "thin". Great for carry, little thin in hand. The blade shape for the EDC is very "user friendly" good general purpose knife, the price is good to.

As for the Emersons, they make good knives but when you start getting into chisel grind, tanto points ect....they tend to lose out on the "utility" requirements compaired to the others.

I would go to a local knife store and find one fits your hand well and then make your decision.

Spyderco FRN (VG-10) Native. That would be a very good choice. In-fact, that is one that I have chosen, and am waiting delivery on.:).

I agree with the glockman, the Native is an excellent choice for EDC. My main reason for liking this knife so much is the excellent ergonomic grip. It's really made to fit the hand. I like my Native 35/65 combo edge so much that it's my backup EDC and goes with me anywhere and everywhere.;)

Another Spydie that would fill the bill described is the Calypso Jr. Lightweight with VG-10 blade. They are on clearance at Smokey Mountain Knifeworks for around $30 or so. That's pretty cheap for one of those.
Another BM to look at is the 705 with Axis lock. I haven't owned one but they get great reviews.
Hope this helps.

Nice list you've put together.
That Calypso Jr. ltwt. sounds like quite the bargain!
I like the EDC's blade alot, too.
Hard to beat full flat grinds and/or recurves, IMO.
Might help if you give a little insight as to what kind of uses you normally have for a knife.
Welcome to the forums:)

The BM 690 is nice but I believe the Native would be more durable with the FRN handle. It's a lot cheaper than the BM but this is not an indication of poor build quality or anything like that.

Like the above said...the handle ergonomics are excellent for everday use and carry.
