I just received the small regular Unique Graphic Sebenza with a Spirograph Damascus blade. It came without the box and data card. There is no date stamp codes on the inside of the scales. From what I have been able to find out thru research, they didn’t start putting the date code on the inside of the scales until 1998. The other regular PJ small Sebenza in the pictures has a date code on the presentation side scale is B 98 and there is no date code on the lock side scale. The picture showing the edges of each knife scales shows a difference in the grooves. The PJ regular has three peaks in the grooves, the Unique Graphic regular has five peaks in the grooves. So my question is if the Unique Graphic regular is older than the PJ regular that has a B 98 date code? Do the difference in the number of groove peaks help in dating it? I live in the Boise, Idaho area, so I will be taking it into the CRK office and seeing what they can tell me, but I just thought that I would see what some of you experts could tell me.

My next question is what your opinions are on getting the Unique Graphic Sebenza with a Spirograph Damascus blade refurbished. You can see that the contrast on the Spirograph Damascus blade is faded and the blue anodize on the graphic grooves is almost all gone. I am more of a “it is only original once” person and since it will be a user, I’m leaning on just leaving it the way it is as I can always get it refurbed later.

Thanks for any input on either/both questions.

Do both have flat clips? They probably should. I would use the PJ,. and take the Spiro to the shop and see what Annie says about it.. Could be there's a story. Bart

Well then 96'-97' is what it has to be... pretty much.Bart

Flat, like the one on your PJ.

Not sure what you mean by “Flat, like the one on your PJ”, the clip on the Spiro has a flatter clip as it doesn’t have the bend in the middle. Also, it is a shorter clip and the wear mark on the lock bar corresponds to the shorter length. Seems like it would also have a second longer wear mark on the lock bar if it originally had the longer clip like the PJ.

What an incredible find!!! It’s up to you but it’s such a cool piece of CRK history, I’d keep it as is but that just my opinion. Stunning!!!

I said it backwards, they should both be the flat kind.

I took the UG Spirograph Sebenza into CRK on Monday. They dated the replacement data card at 1996-97. Ann said they didn’t make the flat clips for very long because people complained that they didn’t hold the knife in the pocket very well, so they added the dimple. She is always great to talk to and willing to share information. When I bring in old knives (like the South Africa made ones), she says “It is good to see old friends”. I then asked about refurbishing the Spirograph Damascus blade, they didn’t suggest it because they didn’t have any of the Spirograph Damascus left incase there was a problem. So I am just going to use it the way it is with all of it’s “patina”.
