Although that seems rough, I have a mouse that lives in my kitchen, and so I bought 2 victor mouse traps. I have baited the things, but the mouse will eat the bait off, and the traps don't spring. What can I do? Thanks in advance., Joe

Warm a carmel in the microwave and mold it to the trap, then smear a little peanut butter on it. I've never seen that not work. :)

Dijos, a small piece of bacon and a bread "wire tie" to attach it will get him, assuming this is the older spring type traps. It really does not matter, he won't get it off without springing it if you wrap the bacon good with the wire.

Cat, yeah..there's two problems. The mouse is in the drawers of my cabinets, and I doubt that a cat wants to hang out in a drawer all day. Also, my rescue boxer is "bad with cats". This translates to "will hunt and kill cats with great glee, much to my family's horror during a mother's day barbeque, especially considering that it was my mom's cat." THAT was an interesting day. Otherwise, I'd be thrilled to use a cat. It has to work better than my lame trapping attempts.

Forget the spring-loaded traps. My wife and I lived in an apartment next to a field that was being developed. IE: they were bulldozing down the trees, cutting out the weeds, etc. So... we ended up with mice trying to move in with us all the time. We tried the regular traps. They did the same thing. Ate the bait, but never tripped the trap. I went to Wal-Mart and picked up about five packs of the little plastic "sticky" glue traps. Those things work great!! You just place them anywhere you think the mice might run across. Once they do: they get stuck in place. You wake up the next morning, check to see which traps have mice, pick up trap with pliers, place in trash bag, place in outside trash can and you're done!

Im not trying to seem like a peta member, but i would suggest something quick and humane like a big rat sized spring trap or a BB gun or a cat, IMHO.

Naw......guess that wouldn't work, except maybe for the cat!!

I think this qualifies as a thread for Gadgets & Gear. I think. :D

I've had good luck with peanut butter as well. The trick is to spread a little bit on the underside of the lever.

Haha, I've used those sticky tape traps before. The darn rat was too big so it just got bald spots and walked away. :grumpy: It seems that the more entertaining way to kill them is hunt them and do it your self :D its really entertaining.

I've found that the way to go is to get a short piece of yarn and tie it to the lever. Then work some peanut butter into the yarn. The mouse will tug at the tasty yarn and get himself broken.

The best mouse trap ever is the aptly named "bucket of doom". This is a bucket filled halfway with motor oil (used works fine) with a cardboard tube or ramp leading down to the ground. Hang a blob of peanut butter over the oil and hinge the ramp at the top. Mouse smells bait, goes up ramp, and his weight causes it to tip up, dropping him into the oil. The oil keeps him from decompoing and making a nuisance. You can easily trap dozens of mice with one inexpensive setup. However, this probably works better for garages and utility spaces than it does in the kitchen.

Yup, the answer is peanut butter. Mice love it. And because it's so sticky and gooey they can't pull it off the trigger. They have to lick and lick at that little paddle until... bam!

Also, when you buy mouse traps, keep them in the sealed plastic package until you need them. Then, wear examining gloves when you handle them so as not to leave a scent on the trap.

Hi All-

Using a .410 in the kitchen is probably out-of-the-question unless you have a really rustic place.

D-Con baited traps? Even if they eat some, they won't live too long. (Well, I had mice that ate the entire box before dying)

I gotta give it up for the sticky pads as well- they're awesome. Get the big rat sized ones and put a blob of peanut butter in the middle. My office at the former MCAS Tustin was located within the supply warehouse. I caught five mice on one pad with this technique.

I'm not sure what kind of marsupials JasonS has running around his house :D , but for ordinary rodent type mice, the glue traps will work wonders. Happy hunting.

Have you ever watched a cat kill a mouse?

Mold a pice of bread into the bait pan and smear peanut butter on it. You gotta make them work for it a little because sometimes those traps don't fire very easy.

Oh yeah, a snake beats a cat any day. :D
