I need some input on machining and drilling titanium. I think my hardest alloy in my titanium mokume is 6Al-4V at about 36 to 40 HRC. I finally got the billet cut in two pieces and not I need to drill the holes through the two pieces and turn them down to size.

My normal drill bits won't even really touch the stuff and I had to run the mill at about 150 RPM with the parting tool to get the billet cut in two.

Anybody have any words of wisdom to what type of drill bits I should buy and what speed I should use to turn the pieces down to size?

Thanks for your help.

Laredo, you might need to anneal the stuff.
Sometimes I get a chunk of ti that's hard to work and have to anneal it.
Just heat it up red hot and quench it in water and it'll soften up.
I do all my ti drilling with the same bits I use on other metals, just run them slower and clear the debris more.

Don't you have a metal cutting bandsaw?
