I've narrowed it down to a few choices that are pretty similar. So I need some help nailing it down to one. I know I have to make the decision over which blade steel I prefer and handle material. But aside from those can you guys think of some other reasons to choose one over the other? I'm considering these three models with wharncliffe blades.

What are you planning on using the knife for? If it is skinning or animal processing one of the furtaker's

just everyday pocket knife stuff. apples packages whittling food fishing gardening. While not out of the question animal processing isn't likely.

I have a Furtaker Muskrat and a #48 with clip and pen blades, not a wharncliffe. The #48 is a little easier in the pocket and I think the clip blade is a little longer than on the Muskrat. I would choose the #48 personally however the Turkish clip on the Muskrat is really nice.

I have had all three, and personally I prefer either trapper to the muskrat, as I just like both blades pivoting on the same end. The Furtaker trapper is a beefier pattern: longer, thicker, wider and heavier. The Furtaker's Wharncliffe is what I call a sheepcliffe, kind of a cross between a sheepfoot and a Wharncliffe. The Wharncliffe on the #48 is a more slender, pointier design, and less stout than on the Furtaker. The #48 would be more pocket friendly, but the equal end carries OK as well, but right at the limit. Many of our members would likely carry a knife that large in a sheath, but at 6'1" and 260 pounds, it carries fine for me right in the front pocket. GEC's 440C stainless is very good steel, will hold an edge slightly longer than their 1095, and will stay bright and shiney. If you like a patina, go with the Tidioute.

Actually the furtaker muskrats I'm looking at pivot on the same side. As long as it's smaller and lighter than a buck 110 I'm okay with it in my pocket. I actually prefer a hand filling grip so the furtaker trapper might be it...

Thanks for the suggestion, dah Moose don't do it for me.
