I need some help from the mod kings in the room, I want to remove the thumb ramp off the BK-7, what is the best way to go about this?

I aint a ''mod king'' whatever that is...

But i used a bench grinder...VERY slowly....made SURE it never got hot....dipped in cool water every pass. then cleaned it up with a hand file

I don't know Jack about modding, but the one thing I have gleamed is do not let the knife get hot and mess up the heat treatment.

Slow and steady wins the race.

I haven't done it, but I'm thinking a belt sander, or even a grinder, and a bucket of cold water. Tape up the blade edge, so you don't get cut, and hold the blade with two hands, one of them right at the area being ground. When it starts to get uncomfortably warm, dunk the blade in the water and swish it around until it's cooled off. If your fingers can stand the heat, you won't ruin the blade's temper. Oh, and if you're going to add jimping in lieu of the thumb ramp, Ethan has suggested using a round file, like a chain saw file, since round grooves are less of a stress riser than sharp notches. You can get round chain saw files anywhere that sells chain saws. Just yesterday while buying a leaf blower/vacuum (yeah I'm a season or two behind) I saw pairs of chain saw files at Home Depot for $7, your choice of three sizes, 5/32", 3/16", and 7/32".

fingers are calloused (or should be lol)..I touch the metal to the inside of my wrist...more sensitive there....I can take WAY more heat on my palms/fingers then i can my wrist. just a FYI

Bench grinder...But obviosly since the wheel is circular in will leave a convex grind line so just flip it over and balance it out then finish it off with a dremel or by hand with sandpaper.

We don't all have kydex coated bear paws thrill!

Ok, so since we're on the subject of mods and grinders and heat treats (oh my), what size grinder are ya'll using? 5"...8"? Grinder/buffer combo? I'm thinking about investing in a few tools since I have found myself with a little spare time around the house...
