Hey guys. So I jas had a satin finish done on a CGFBM and unfortunately had the rare opportunity to witness INFI decarb rusting first hand. The rusting is all in the corrugations and in the decarb part right above the edge. Needless to say I was a little upset. So anyway, I used a rust eraser to remove most of the rust on the blade but there is still rust in the "dimples" that arent easy to get out. Do you guys know of any rust removing solution that will remove all traces of rust and still leave a satin finish the blade? Thanks!

Did Busse do the satin finish ?

If yes contact them they will make it right and to keep the warranty in effect.

If no, contact the person who did it and they should make it right.

Hmmm I should clarify that the rust appeared on the blade 2 weeks after the finish was done. When the blade came to me, it didnt have rust on it. Anyway, what is likely gonna happen is im gonna send it back to the guy and have him take down the corrugations and decarb layer.

your best bet is to sandblast the cbt's to remove all the decarb. it is a real pain in the arse to get in there by hand. it does't look half bad after it's done.

Thanks for the ideas guys, I'll try them out. Oge, any recommendations for a sandblaster? ive never used one before.

Correct English my good man. Glad to see it's not a pain in the donkey ;) :D

Right, back on track - maybe use a wire brush with some motor oil. Get him all clean and shiny, but still retain that awesome rugged Busse knife look.

There is nothing Satin Finished about that blade, I'm thinking Stripped at best. Use a pot scrubber sponge and some oil, or just take it out and use it the way it is.

Busse will not do satin finish on blades with corrugations. I've asked, the answer was no.

I think that Busse will do a competition finish on that blade, which AFAIK amounts to a light brush blast.

Yep, naval jelly for regular maintenence, rust jelly rinse repeat. Eventually that will get through all the decarb, it'll take years though. Alternatively bust out the sandblaster. Again you may not get all the decarb in one shot, but you'll get alot of it and whatever is left can be taken care of with another pass or two on specific areas.

A bronze utility brush (like the ones sold for firearm maintenance) and some Flitz will clean it right up. The 2 sided Hoppes version allows you to get into the small nooks....

No Flitz? Baking soda works too!

I agree, blasting would be best.

Do you plan on using the knife? If so then leaving the decarb layer as is would be a good option. Jerry has stated that rust on the decarb layer won't pit the good stuff underneath. Some people think it looks kinda cool too.
