2 weeks ago I lost my Mini7 that I purchased in 2006 and have carried pretty much every day since. Horrible feeling. The Mini7 quickly became my favorite EDC option being a fan of the original CQC7.
Shopped around for something different and came back to the mini7. This is where I'm running into an issue. My original knife was the Satin (I believe it was in '06) with partial serrations. There were a few things that I didn't exactly care for with this knife but my main complaint was that I felt that there was too many serrations on such a short blade. I felt that if Emerson would of made the serrations two/thirds as long as what is really on the knife, if would of improved it. Leaving me with plenty of cutting edge and still giving me enough serrations to use on a seat belt (for example) in an emergency.
I was very much a fan of the Satin finish but purchased my last Emerson long before they started doing the current two-toned stonewashed finish. Black - Not so much. I owned the original Raven, Commander and Mini Commander in black and honestly getting my first CQC7 in Satin was way more partial to that.
So I was looking for a Mini7 in Stonewash with a plane blade and could find NOT ONE in stock at a reputable dealer no where. I've got $150 to work with. The black model was in. But man, I wanted that stonewash and I knew that it's not like I'm not used to the serrations anyway having carried the same model for over a half dozen years. So I went with the Stonewash - serrated. I felt with the new two tone finish and more aggressive texturing on the G10 scales (another complaint of earlier models I've owned) I would be happy.
Now I'm wondering if I should of gotten the black plane. I just can't remember if the serrations bothered me that bad (having gone into the serrations unintentionally while cutting was something that happened on occasion) or am I just making it up wanting the something to be the same but a little different as well.
