Need help on Mini7 - Order is already in...having second thoughts

2 weeks ago I lost my Mini7 that I purchased in 2006 and have carried pretty much every day since. Horrible feeling. The Mini7 quickly became my favorite EDC option being a fan of the original CQC7.

Shopped around for something different and came back to the mini7. This is where I'm running into an issue. My original knife was the Satin (I believe it was in '06) with partial serrations. There were a few things that I didn't exactly care for with this knife but my main complaint was that I felt that there was too many serrations on such a short blade. I felt that if Emerson would of made the serrations two/thirds as long as what is really on the knife, if would of improved it. Leaving me with plenty of cutting edge and still giving me enough serrations to use on a seat belt (for example) in an emergency.

I was very much a fan of the Satin finish but purchased my last Emerson long before they started doing the current two-toned stonewashed finish. Black - Not so much. I owned the original Raven, Commander and Mini Commander in black and honestly getting my first CQC7 in Satin was way more partial to that.

So I was looking for a Mini7 in Stonewash with a plane blade and could find NOT ONE in stock at a reputable dealer no where. I've got $150 to work with. The black model was in. But man, I wanted that stonewash and I knew that it's not like I'm not used to the serrations anyway having carried the same model for over a half dozen years. So I went with the Stonewash - serrated. I felt with the new two tone finish and more aggressive texturing on the G10 scales (another complaint of earlier models I've owned) I would be happy.

Now I'm wondering if I should of gotten the black plane. I just can't remember if the serrations bothered me that bad (having gone into the serrations unintentionally while cutting was something that happened on occasion) or am I just making it up wanting the something to be the same but a little different as well.

I would send it back and get the one you really want......my preference is always plain edge YMMV.

My favorite mini 7 of all time was the black blade with serration.

I have had many other CQC-7's since then. I had the Plain Edge stonewash and PE serrated. Also had the PE in black and the older satin. I didn't like any of them as much as the black blade WITH serrations.

But everybody has to go through what you are to find the one that you prefer best.

I only like serrations on my workhorse emersons. For me the two models that are my workhorses are the Commander and mini CQC-7. I do not like serrations on any other model.. Again just preference and my personal opinion on what I like.

That's a good point. The more I think of it, even when it bugs me sometimes, I'm going to want the serrations on a work knife. Every single one of my Emersons has been beaten up. And every single one of those has had serrations being a work knife. This new Mini7 is going to get treated no better....well maybe a little better for the first couple months if I'm honest.

I think what I'm going to do is keep the order as it stands. Then in a few months when it comes close to my birthday, treat my self to an Emerson that I'm not planning on carrying/abusing. That will be the knife that I get in a plain blade. I'm thinking maybe the CQC8. I've never even held one before but know without a shadow of a doubt that I'd love it. It will be a toss up between the 8 (maybe a super cqc8) or the Super CQC7, which is another I haven't tried out but love my mini and standard.

Good choice.

For what it is worth, I think you made the best decision and if you had traded it in for a PE in the CQC-7 mini you would have wanted the serrated model more.

Hindsight is always 20/20..so you will find out on your birthday when you get a PE. Best thing is get both and if you like the one more than the other you can always sell it on the exchange. They are like cash.

Oh, if you check ebay the CQC-7 MINI's are going for around $105.-$125
