Need help on new BM!!

I received a beautiful Benchmade 732 in D2 for Christmas. The only problem I am having is the Axis lock bar seems too long. When I try to open it with one side, the axis bar binds up and will not disengage all the way. If I "help it" out by using both side buttons, the blade swings open ever so smoothly.

My question is this: can I squeeze the axis buttons closer together so the bar won't bind?

Thanks for any help

Rob to me it sounds like a trip to Benchmade is called for here. I would not try to press the lock bar together because it is threaded together.

It probably just needs to be broken in. Almost all the AXIS-lock BMs I've had have been a mite stiff out of the box.

I thought you're supposed to use both buttons for releasing the blade.....all of the axis locks I've seen have bound up opening vyour way.

I have a couple of axis now and they both open very smoothly with no binding or tinkering.
First I've heard of the binding issue.

Well...I am happy to report after a day of tinkering, it seems I was worried about nothing. It works beautifully now.

Thanks for the replys.

Often what seems to happen is that the AXIS bar is experiencing friction against the "ricasso/choil/bladestop" portion of the blade.

This is especially noticeable with BT or beadblasted blades.

With a little bit of wear-in, it smooths out. You can also hold the blade closed (i.e. pressure on that friction surface against the lockbar) and move the bar about 20x. It is very tough but it accelerates the wear-in.

Thanks for the advice! It seems to have worked itself out now. I also bought a 550 Grip and a 710 trainer, and they seemed smoother out of the box. Weird. Now the 732 feels real good.
