Ok, I am in the market for a 4" folder. It will be my carry knife. Needs to be thin when folded and lightweight. Would like to get to the point I don't know it is there.

I have a Kershaw Chive that is my "utility" knife and is used to open boxes and such. So this other knife would be for "other" purposes.

I am lacking much knowledge in regards to brands and what they offer. I have been thinking about Cold Steel, Spyderco, Kershaw, Benchmade, CRKT.

What are the good and bad points of each? I know some of this is subjective, but let me know your feelings.

How about blade strength? Lock strength? Handle durability? Type of steel in blades (have no knowledge in this area either - need to do some reading)? Size to fit in front right pocket? Or Right Rear pocket?

I am right handed and would prefer something that is not shiny as I don't want to draw attention to it.

I have someone that is very fond of there Cold Steel Recon 1 Tanto point, and also has good things to say about the CS Voyager.

Any and all input is GREATLY appreicated. Thanks!

You better post your price, because there's a LOT of knives that meet your requirements.

Without knowing your price I'd recommend:
Timberline Large Wortac
Benchmade D2 AFCK
Spyderco Police
Cold Steel Pro-Lite

I've been very happy with my CS Voyageurs (1 tanto, 1 clip, both medium): light, flat for discrete carry, strong locks, corrosion resistant, excellent steel, reasonable price...

Get a Benchmade Griptilian, or its' smaller brother, the Mini-Griptilian.

DUDE! Neither of those are 4" blades, which was his first requirement. Get with the program, man! ;)

The Cold Steel Ti-Lites have 4" blades. I have the model with the zytel handle, and find it very easy to carry as a result of its low weight.

I d like to make some suggestions concerning to Spyderco Folders because i m a big fan.

Spyderco Endura
very light - not expensive
Spyderco Lil' Temperance (Trailing Point)
expensive but worth every cent
Spyderco Paramilitary
light - excellent blade

I used an Endura as my EDC for 10 Years and still love it. I just ordered a Chinook2 though the decision between Paramilitary and the Chinook2 wasn't easy at all.I read a sig which was saying that if one decided to use a folder it should be the heaviest one is able to carry.

I think the Paramilitary is worth a look. Excellent Blade not heavy and a good lock.

:p

I'd also suggest the Endura. You can find an FRN model on eBay for a very good price. I hope you enjoy whatever you decide to get. ;)

Yerah, a buddy of my has the zytel model... its a nice knife... go with the Ti or Ano Ti if you have the money though. Any of the 3 is great.

A 4" knife with a thin handle is the S&W HRT framelock by Darrel Ralph. nice and thin for easy carry, and excellent design. Blade is 440C so its still decent quality, and you can find it for $30 or so.

IMHO, the BM 806 AFCK is the be all and end all for 4 in. folders in the $100 ballpark. D2 steel, axis lock, thin but strong blade, amazing handle ergonomics, an offset cutting edge, an oval opening hole ( ;) )...
