I made my trip to Woodcraft today. I purchased a King Ice Bear 4000 F-3 for $21.50. It was between that and a King 1000 for a few dollars more. I want to purchase a 2nd stone. My limit is $50 shipped. I will not buy another stone for awhile so 2 stones will have to suffice. I also have two strops with a green compound on one and a black compound on the other. I will be sharpening pocket knives, hunting knives, and kitchen knives.

What grit and brand would your get?[/color]

I was thinking maybe 1000 grit Shapton or Naniwa. Or Bester 700. Maybe a Diasharp 6" combo of coarse/fine or a single 8" diasharp coarse or fine.

I can get a Bester 500,700,or 1000 for less than $50 shipped. Would any of these work well with my King 4000

Get the 1k next, the stone you have is for finishing and if you have not worked your way up to this stone its not going to be very effective. After the 1k get a coarser stone like a 220 or 500 for setting bevels. When you sharpen a knife you must create the edge, you will know you knife better that way.

Shapton 1000 for $45, Bester 1000 for $47, Naniwa Super stone 1000 for $49, or Naniwa Super Stone 1000 for $44 (thinner verson with base)?
