my dad already has a knife similar to the spydercos i believe something with a higher profile handle would be better for him but not as much as the bonecollector any other suggestions =S? also thanks for the reply

Benchmade Osborne 940 its a great knife and its thiner so it fits well in the pocket, and also has a dress look to it.

A couple of suggestions for folders:

Spyderco Endura, or Delica (depending on the size desired)
Victorinox Trekker
Buck Vantage (you choose the steel based on pricing you can go with the pro)
Benchmade Griptilian
Benchmade 15020 Bone Collector (didn't know if this was the one he had based on your post)
Benchmade 300sn
Case Stockman

*** IF you go with the Benchmades, you can send to the factory and pay a small fee, currently 5 dollars but soon to be raised, and they will laser engrave with anything you'd like. It comes out very nice, and makes it personal.

I'm sorry to hear about your Mother. God rest her soul. You're a good Son to care as much for your Father, and I'm sure he'd love anything you get him.

Kershaw speedform 2, has a great elmax blade and is more of a gentlemans folder. Great price too.

Check out kershawguy.com. Dave is a great guy and an outstanding member here :)

What about this:

Griptilian: Limited Edition Camp Perry 2013
AXIS® lock mechanism
D2 Tool Steel Drop Point Blade
Custom Camp Perry Lasermark
Contoured, Textured Blue and Black G10 Handles
Blue Anodized Barrel Spacers
MSRP $150 with Free Shipping

What sort of lock does he like?
Thumbstud, opening hole, flipper, or traditional nail nick?
How much can it weigh?
Does he misuse knives?
Does he want a pocket clip?
What size?

My ignorant vote is the Spyderco Delica or Sage 1. The Delica is a no frills lockback and the Sage 1 is a classy folder with exceptional quality for a mid-range price.

Depends on what he likes. For a one hander I would spend a little more for a Sage 2, but you have some great suggestions here. I got my dad a knife for a birthday (not a knife guy) and I figured he'd use a case desk knife, and had it engraved. Now he uses it in his office, and having his name engraved makes it his. I spent about 25 for the engraving, and whether initials, names, whatever is your choice, if you don't feel like it messes up the lines of the knife, it does add a personal touch for a gift. I know some prefer a clean blade, but just a thought, otherwise, what he wants in terms of size, lock, one hander, pocket clip, materials, use, more info would help, but great ideas so far.
