Hey guys, my parents gave me a $200 limit for my birthday and I wanted some help/advice on what to get. Let's try to keep it to what's on the list :)
List: Becker BK7
Buck-Strider mini or full size tanto point
BM 722
BM 670
BM 420
Queen stag medium trapper with D2 blades.

I'm probably forgetting one so I may add to the list. Any similar suggestions are welcome. I'll probably get a $100 limit from my grandmother too, she's great with birthdays :D Thanks guys :)

i'd take the money, set it aside, place an order with a custom maker -- Mike Obenauf comes to mind -- and have a keepsake that will provide a lifetime of enjoyment. couldn't resist, sorry.

I don't mind, do you have any links or pictures of his work though? :) What about price wise, what are we talking?

Take the $, put it aside & add to it a little each payday. Start looking for "the" knife. When you see it, you will know. Don't just buy the first thing you see/can afford. Draw the experience out... feel the anticipation of your first custom.

I have a Benchmade 722...Excellent knife! (It's my "utility EDC".). I also have a Benchmade 710 and 705...Both are also excellent knives. I suggest any one of those 3. If you might be looking for a REALLY "special" folder, take a look at the Benchmade 690BCI..That one is NICE!

Of the ones you listed I'd go with the 722 for an EDC. I have the Buck Strider and I love the knife, but it is very W I D E so much so I don't think of it as a pocket carry knife. Also, I had the tanto version of the Buck Strider and the front edge is dull about as sharp as a blunt screw driver. It was designed that way for a super strong tip not for cutting. I traded it off and later got the spear point which is much more user friendly for every day tasks.

The 670 looks like a cool knife. I don't really care for the look of the 420.

Couple of others you may want to look at are
Benchmade 710
Benchamde 806 (Afck)
Almar SERE
If you like big its hard to beat the Camillus Maxx, strong lock, good steel and a 5 inch blade :D

Already own the 806 :) , not so crazy about the 710 or the Almar, and the Madd Maxx  I love it, but I'd never be able to carry it in this state and I'd end up sad, or in trouble with a cop and lose it :(

After looking on Buck's website at the custom 110s I really like it with ATS-34 and the brown elk horn. After seeing the movie "The Edge", I've had a thing for knives that resemble it(the knife in the movie). Oh yea, I really like stag on knives now for some reason... just to help out with any other ideas, thanks guys :)

And no Sebenzas, just not my thing ;)

Benchmade 42 :-D :-D :-D
Illegal here :grumpy: ... I might consider a Typhoon kit though and say f*ck it with the bali law, I don't intend on using it as a weapon or stabbing anyone. Some downright stupid laws in this state :(

It's illegal where I live, but I still have one for use in my house and very rarely carried outside.

Forgot to add that since I got this yesterday I am addicted and have learned nearly all of the beginner moves. This is extremely fun.

If they let you combine, add another $50 and get a Strider AR! If not, I whole heartedly suggest a Buck/Strider spearpoint. Get the large. Awesome cutting tool! After a week other folders feel skinny. I find that to be the case with my AFCK, which isn't "really" a skinny, thin little knife! But actually it is! Buck/Strider handles fill your hand for sure. From the looks of your avatar you already have thinner 3.5-4"ish blades. Get the Strider, as it is different, strong, and a heck of a worker. I'd be happy with a Buck or a Genuine Strider, (I do have the large Buck tanto), but if I had the chance I'd nab an AR!

Yeah, check out some custom makers. I got a beautiful dagger with a nice sheath from Steve Vanderkolff for about $200. A great buy if i do say so. Look around.
HEY!! it's kinda a long way till your B-day????
"CAUTION"--- once started on the custom path you may never find the end.

Is the tanto point on the B-S really that blunt/dull are is just just not "hair popping sharp" like you'd like?

Glockman, how does the tanto point on the 722 compare, is the front edge as sharp as the main edge or is it a lot duller? Thanks :)

Because I received this knife in a trade, and eventho it doesn't LOOK like it has been re-sharpened...(It is in excellent "like-new" condition), I can't say how sharp both edges of the tanto are as they come brand-new from the factory, BUT I can say that both edges on mine are VERY sharp, and as near I can tell, about the same sharpness on both edges.

I think the front edge on the 880T is not meant for cutting. It has about 45 degree which makes it almost like a false edge. The design is more for increasing the tip strength for emergency prying/punching. IMO.

Bump. I want to try and order soon to make sure all items are in stock and will make it in time, thanks guys :)

Damn 10 character minimum :mad::rolleyes: ;) :)

Which makes a better tough, work folder, the B-S tanto or B-S spear point? Do you guys think that my BM 806d2 could take this role or not compared to either of the B-S's?

I'm still undecided on what I really want, I still have a lot of interest in the BM 670, BM 630, BM 420, and Bm 722.
