i bought a knife at a store that is no longer going to carry knives for $11. it looked pretty cool and figured it was worth it. im wanting to know who makes it and what its name is? it is just a solid flat piece of steel with the handle kinda just ground out of the steel. it is similar to a throwing knife. the blade portion is about 2 1/2 in long and is serrated on the top. one side of the knife says japan and the other says g.sakai . it has a lanyard with a 2 in piece of white foam on it. i wanted to post a pic but i guess you cant do that on here.i know its not much to go on but i thought i would give it a shot. your help would be much appreciated! thanks

Do you have a picture?

Hi Buzzbomb,

If it says G.Sakai on it, it's probably pretty good quality. G.Sakai is a knife maker in Seki-City Japan. They have a very good reputation.

The price seems unusually low for a G.Sakai piece, but it's probably a close out.

More info would be needed to determine a model name.

yes it was 75% off. i got a cuda max for $52 at the same place. they are really wanting rid of the whole knife bit.

I don't know about imagevenue, but Photo Bucket is very easy to use and free. You can place your knife on a scanner or photograph it. Upload the image to photobucket. Then cut-and-paste the photobucket file name into your discussion topic.

click on one of the browse buttons, find your picture and select it, choose safe for work, then send file. You then get sent to a page with your uploaded picture, the second (IIRC) text box has a preformatted link that will display the picture on bladeforums when you paste it into a post.

I think anyone who knows that knife will recognize it by your photos. And you've successfully figured out how to post photos on the forums.

Here're some additional tips:
Don't use the flash when photographing knives.
For close-ups of particular features, markings, and stamps the most consistent and useable results are aquired by placing the knife on a flatbed scanner.

Sorry I can't help ID your knife...

Best Wishes,
-Bob

Hi Buzzbomb.

The knife was made by G.Sakai and imported by Spyderco. Mid to late 90's.

It was part of a series that included several folders and fixed blades. "Archistrials" was the designation from the designer. I don't remember, at the moment, the name of the Japanese custom maker that designed the series (senior moment ;) ) If I think of it I'll let you know.

The fixed blade version that you have was the "dive knife" version.

As I remember, the folders and fixed versions had micarta handles and blade steel was ATS. the Dive version had no scales and used AUS-6.
