I'm going from memory here, and I don't want to f*** up my beloved Jessica. Getting ready to clich my BK7, but first I am etching letters on it. What I remember from the "Clich" days was put the stickers on, spray paint, and...... ?

Do you apply the etchant solution (Radio Shack) to the bare letters with Q-tips? Or do I have to paint the entire knife and soak it? How long?

A search of he forums brings up a lot of stuff but its different from what the Beckerheads were doing before.

Help!!!

ok for an etch you remove the stickers after the paint is dry and apply etchant to the bare steel with a q tip, or if you painted the whole blade you can dunk it. Make sure the edge is thickly painted and dry before you do this. Also you can dilute the etchant 50/50 with water and it will do the same job. I use a flower vase for this stuff. As for the clich it is another process with gun blue and bleach...I'll guess you will do the etch before the clich?

Thats pretty much what I did. Hope two coats was enough. I know how to do the cliching, but this is my first ever attempt at etching letters.

How long you leave the etch on?

I would personally paint the whole knife and soak it. "Painting" the enchant on takes a bit longer from what I remember but any way will do. How long depends on if you diluted it with water and/or the temperature in which you are working.

I'm interested to see how this turns out. Post pics when you're done. Good luck.

By the way....why is this listed as a "Contest" LOL....just curious.

etchant works better when dunking - especially if the side being etched is on bottom.

First try...

Wait.... Why does this thread say "Contest"? I didn't mean to do that. Sorry free stuff seekers...
