Just picked up a 897uh on ebay for $18 (including shipping) that I was intending on using as an edc. I thought that was a pretty fair price. Upon receipt I found it to be in its original clam pack--(auction said it's in original box). My problem is, do I open and enjoy the little guy or should I keep it in the packaging? Decisions decisions? There is a minor crack in the plastic by the main blade from being in there. It's almost as if the little guy is trying to break out and be put to use. I'd hate to dissappoint him. BTW, I've never bought a knife yet that was purely intended to be kept in a drawer for future monetary gain. What do you think? I'm going crazy over this--(hence the sickness worsens.)

I would say, that if the clampack already has a minor crack, open it further and pull the knife right out and start useing it, :) That's easy to say, as I have one that came in a box, and one that is still in the clampack :D I still think though, you should open it up and use it. Good luck,

That's what I ended up doing. I was eating my lunch and the knife was glaring at me through the plastic. What the heck, if I want one down the road in a clam pack- I'll just have to buy another. Can't wait to start using it!:D

I did that very thing a couple of weeks ago. I have a half dozen of them still in the clampacks, each from a different package design era, so the duplicate I "unclamed" was no great loss to history or my collection. Since these knives were made from 1967 thru 2004, I don't think I/we have desecrated any great rare relic, but rather continued a tradition of enjoying the use of a good knife.

I just finished sharpening the little fella to my liking and it will be traveling to work with me tomorrow. Can't wait!
