Need help regarding Busse knives

Hello.
This is my first post.
I have been looking for the "perfect" large survival knife for some time now.
What I want is a blade that is at least somewhat rust resistant that doesn't chip easely. Seems like I have found that in the INFI steel.

The problem is that I am a Noob when it comes to Busse knives.
There seems to be so many different models that I don't know which to chose. I would really like some suggestions and pointers from you pros.

I guess a battle mistress would be a good pick but ones again there seems to be so many different types and this confuses me :o

I want a blade somewhere around 8-10 inches. I want to use it for batoning and chopping and stuff like that. Any suggestions? I would really appreciate some help.

Thank you for you time.

For me the Fusion Battle Mistress does it. Might be at the upper end of your size limit but is a great chopper and still works well as an allround camp knife. No need for the Fat FBM in my opinion, the 'normal' around .27 thick FBM is great and you won't be able do destroy it if you do anything with it a knife is meant for.

Lots of people also love the NM SFNO at about 8 inch lenght. I have never handled one, but I surely love my SFNO LE which sees more use than my FBM. Never had a problem with chopping with a 6 inch blade as I don't need to cut up whole trees.

Enjoy your first Busse, it surely won't be the last!!

There you have it. Your top and bottom are now set. NMSFNO for the smaller end (and very comfy) and a Battle Mistress (probably the latest BWM is cheapest) at the top end.

Both are regularly available on the XC here.

Close the thread! LOL

Welcome!!!!

As for the Battle Mistresses, right now is a great time to score a BWM (Bushwacker Mistress) as they are selling within +/- $20 of original factory cost of $347 for combat grade. They are a steal and a great Mistress option as they are about .19" thick which makes em nice and light compared to the other mistresses.

The CG Fusion Battle Mistress (the one with the "ribs" or Corrugated Bevel Technology) are also a great option and sort of the standard when it comes to the mistresses - they are going for about $490 to $550 depending on condition.

Another great option is the Basic 11 - just picked one up this weekend and it's already got an excellent reputation for chopping, it's main advantage being a rubberized Rec-C handle which makes it very comfy for chopping and lightens the overall weight by a significant margin without giving up too much toughness. These guys are going for about $330 to $350 right now.

If you want a smaller camp blade that can do a bit of everything, the 8" NMSFNO or SARSquatch are my favorites.

This is a great time to get into Busses as it really is a buyers market!

Wow, you guys rock! Thank you so much for all the help.

As for getting the knife, should I just keep my eyes open on the exchange here or is there somewhere else I should go?

I live in Sweden if that matters at all..

In 100 posts here you will get 99 different answers to your question.

:D And to keep up this tradition I would like to suggest to have a look at the Fusion Steel Heart (FSH) - especially the Heavy Heart Fusion Steel Heart (HHFSH) might be what you want. It has basically the same blade legth and shape as the NMSFNO but is a litte more expensive. However, I would dare to say the HHFSH has more "style" than the NMSFNO.

My personal ranking would be:

1. CG FBM (the one with the corrugations)
2. HHFSH
3. NMSFNO

ah, what's help with out pics, here are a few different battle mistress options. If your concerned about weight, go for either a Basic 11 or a Bushwacker "both great deals"
if you want a mid weight chopper the CG FBM with the corrigations is excellent. If you want Monster choppers go with hte FFBM or NMFBM...
here are the BW, the top is an LE of .22 thickness, a great feeling knife

Ahh Sweden! Your girls are hot and your metal rocks!!!

A lot of us were in your position at one point so can understand how overwhelming a lot of this can be :)

I would keep your eyes glued to the exchange if you want any of the models discussed above. Most sellers will do international shipping at cost.

Otherwise bussecombat.com is selling the Boss Jack and bussecompanystore.com is selling the SAR6 - both are smaller than what you are asking for.

You may also want to post a Want To Buy if you know what you want.

Good luck and keep us updated!

Ah those pictures are killing me.. need to get one ASAP :)

For some reason I don't like the look of the cg's but I love everything else.

Seems to me that at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter all that much which I chose. They're all great knives.. right?

I'll throw in another question that has me puzzled:
How come some Busse's go for like 350-400 $ and some go for like 1100 $ when they seem to be basically the same knife? Is it just a question of handle material and being limited editions?

One more question, sorry.. :)

I much prefer the satin finish over the coated blades. Does that matter much when it comes to rust resistance? Is there a big price difference?

actually the only ones's I've ever had rust problems with was one double cut finish and the "competition finish" which I dont' think they will use again. when it comes to pricing usually DC is + 80 and Satin is + 100 or so.
as far as similar blades being different prices, it depends on the number of a certain blade made, if it was a custom shop, and how old it is> old school blades bring a premium, even though they are often not as attractive as the new blades. supply and demand. right now the little meaner street is bringing premiums due to there not being many for sale.
glad the pics help
