Greetings to all. I have an early Pre "Black Jack" Classic Knives 1-7 model. Below are a few pictures, I was wondering if anyone was able to give a rough time frame these were produced? Does anyone know what the early blades were made of? Any information would be great, and thanks in advance!

😉
Thank you, I've read that before and from what I can figure, the known facts are below:

1- BlackJack introduced this model (1-7) in 1991.
2- In 1991 BlackJack was located in Van Nuys CA, but moved to Effingham IL in October 1991.
3- Two small batches of the 1-7 were produced in CA and are marked VAN NUYS CA, as opposed to the IL produced which are marked EFFINGHAM IL.
4- 600-900 knives were completed before the move away from CA, those knives were made of 0170-6 steel from Sharon Steel Company. These knives were 80% assembled in CO by Western Cutlery Co.
5- BlackJack switched to 52-100 after Sharon Steel Co went bankrupt and everyone ran out of 0170-6, but in between the use of those two steels 1095 was used.

The article you linked to, makes it appear all knives were marked either Van Nuys CA, or Effingham IL. The one I have does not show any place of manufacturer, nor do it say BlackJack, it does say "Classic Blades" and has the cards with a knife through an Ace.

Anyone able to assist a bit more with where or when the knife was made? For some reason, the bug has bit me with this knife and I'm trying to nail more info than I usually would.

Thank you to everyone who reads and or gives input!!

As you say, the article posted by Girlymann does not make reference to a 1-7 without those marks.
However, the photo that is used for an "early 1-7" appears to have the same marks as your knife.

Looks like some sort of carbon steel to me. But I'm not an expert.

Well, being that it says "carbon steel" on the blade, I'm not sure if your post is a "plus one", something stating the obvious, or if I'm just not able to comprehend the deeper meaning of your words. Lack of inflection on the internet really doesn't help with stuff like this. Sorry if I'm taking it too literal, but you lost me, any clarification would be great.

Drop Mike Stewart a note - https://www.facebook.com/mike.stewart.397 , he's still good about answering Blackjack stuff.

That stamp was a transitional one, it shows up on some knives, and I've seen it in ad copy over the years.

Being transitional would make it interesting, and I'm guessing put it in the 1991 time frame, which would certainly help on nailing down the steel which was used. However, if you mean transitional as in when the company was changing owners, that happened a few times IIRC, so it would be anyones guess.

Someone is forwarding the pics to Mike to see if they spark a memory, so hopefully I'll be able to update this when I get more info.

I appreciate the help!
