Ok guys, I'm having a lot of trouble removing the head from the handle on my CRKT Chogan Woods tomahawk.

I've tried whacking the bottom end of the handle with a wooden mallet while bracing the head between two fence posts to no avail.

I've also tried tapping the head, while wrapped in a rag, with a ball peen hammer with the end of the handle held firmly on a cement block, but it won't budge.

Additionally, I braced the head with my hands, bringing the end of the handle down onto a cement slab several times with no luck.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated at this point.

Thanks in advance.

I just banged the base of the handle straight down on the garage floor. You can't hold the head or the handle too tight or you interfere with the inertia of the head.

Tried your suggestion, gave it 20 good whacks on the pavement, but no movement of the head what-so-ever.

You might try tossing it in your freezer for a couple hours, then pounding it. The heads are set in Oregon, so the environment change across the country may have tightened the head on the handle. If all else fails, you can drill out the handle and buy a new one for $9.99 http://www.crkt.com/woods-t-hawk-replacement-handle

Good point, and probably more so since I'm in hot, dry Australia.

Looking closely at the bottom of the head, the wood looks very slightly swelled out.

I'll try the suggestion with the freezer, but if that fails I may just try modding it with the handle attached and use tape around the head to protect it from the sanding.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Putting it in the freezer worked great. Two solid whacks was all it took. Thanks for the assist benpetersen01.
