ok so i recently bought a kershaw rake and since its a flipper i have no need for the thumb stud and would like to remove it like i do on my other flippers.

I just find that the stud gets in the way and limits the amount of the edge that is usable since the stud can get hung up on what your cutting. I actually cut myself really bad once when the stud on my kershaw ram got stuck in a soda can i was cutting the top of and when i attempted to pull the blade free i sliced into my thumb really good.
thankfully the stud on the rake is close to the handle so it isnt as much in the way as on other knives, But i would still prefer to remove it

what i need help with is to find out how the stud is attached to the blade
-Is it a two piece stud that screws together
OR
-Is it a single one piece stud that is press fit into the blade (if this is the case i need to know if it is tapered causing it to be removed by pushing it one direction only)

my guess is that it is press fit but the last thing i want to do is to start pounding on my knife and potentially damaging the blade or making the stud more difficult to remove.
I would like to keep the stud in decent condition in case i sell the knife so i can reinstall it

I thank you for all your help and any advice you can give me (well except for telling me i should just leave the stud in :D)

Might want to see first if it actually doubles as the blade stop pin. The Skyline and the ZT 0350 both do this and I know that there are others.

Don't have anything to add to the thread...just an observation.

On my page, the title of this thread appears as "Need help removing thumb..."

An interesting thing to see on a knife forum

I already checked that but thank you for the warning as some people might not know to look out for that

I got a rake and the thumb stud is useless for me. I've just lived with it. Maybe try some vise grips. If worse comes to worse grind it off and drill it out.

i just dont know if it is screwed together or is a single piece that is press fit into the blade. so without knowing its kinda hard to remove it. If its a screw one and i try to hammer it out i could end up damaging the blade same goes for if it is tapered so it can only be removed from one direction

Kershaw press-fits a lot of the thumb studs on their knives for years now. You will have to press it out somehow, good luck.

I bought the "el cheapo" combo pack at the big box store last year and did remove the thumbstuds from one of the knives. They were a two piece, press together job. A pair of vise-grips on each side and twist like crap! You'll ruin 'em, but that's how they come out.
