I am a veteran of many years with the San Diego Police Department. This knife has an engraved image of the old San Diego Police Department on the blade. There is also a #327 on the tang. I am hoping that someone can help me determine the significance of that number 327. Was it a number in a sequence? Was it the badge number of the original owner? Any help would be appreciated.

Issued in 1981, number on the side is serialized issue number. Two versions were made balck etch, or gold etch. No way to know serialization numbers as our BCCI data show each issue was 200 +, how many +?. The one I have is #150.

Thanks a JB. The thing that is confusing is that typically when there is a limited edition it would indicate 327 of 500 for example. The lack of that format is what made me scratch my head.

I would say at least plus 127!

Maybe one of your buddies at the San Diego Police Department know? Maybe one of your old colleagues commissioned it? If all else fails, you could try asking Buck itself?

Most of the ones that I have remained in contact with are not knif3 nuts and would look at me with a blank stare. I think JB’s answer is most likely the case.
