what is the most revered multitool out there. i have a leatherman pst but wish i had saw and ?diamond file. are there any others out there better than leatherman wave or supertool
i spend most of my time in candlepowerforums and found you all through there. my only other knives of mentionable quality are a spyderco and an almar ?

as you can tell i know precious little about knives and your help is appreciated.

this will be used just for around the house use in the yard and garden, garage, nothing fancy or life-saving...
thanks in advance:D

Well, I'm a Leatherman WAVE guy. I've had my WAVE
for about 2 years now, and If I lost it (I carry it
everyday so that could happen:( ) I would order another
one the next day. The main thing I like about it is the
Locking-Blades this is the only tool (Made by a good company)
I know of with only Locking-BLADES, some tools don't lock,
Some lock everything, but the WAVE Locks only the "Tools"
that I believe need to be locked.

The only things I know of that are close are the:

Leatherman Juice XE6, or KF4. I think iether has
everything you said, but both are smaller then your PST
(about SAK size), Non-Locking.

.and.
Gerbers Multi-Plier 800 Legend, but it has all locking tools,
and a 50/50 blade (Instead of the WAVES to blades),
It is also a little bigger.

P.S. I think a search on here of the Swiss-Tool will explain
Why I didn't put it in my list. Here is a start (Good, and Bad)

Hope this helps :D :)
Good luck, and tell us what you end up with.

Welcome, mate. Suggest you do a search here on "multi tools" and spend
the next several days reading all about this subject. There are fans of all the
major tools some complete with links to checkout.

Just remember the only "right" tool is the one that does what YOU need to do.
Oh yea, Spyderco and Al mar knives? You are off to good start with quality tools
already, mate.

The Swisstool is very nice, heavy duty with a lot of tools the Wave doesn't have. I use mine a lot at home. If I'm camping or hiking, though, I have my Leatherman Crunch with me. The Crunch rules, so far as I'm concerned. It's small, it's light and the locking pliers can serve as a wrench in a pinch (try shutting a sticky valve on a propane tank with any other multi tool).

You cant go wrong with the Leatherman wave, it is by far my favourite. It gives nearly the same performance as the Supertool even with the compact size. I carry mine every day. You should also check out the swisstool, this is my favourite tool for outdoor sports such as hunting and fishing. The swisstool is very sturdy but a little large for EDC.

thanks guys i think that i will stick with the wave just because it is readily available in my area and i have a partial gift certificate. any body wanna buy my pst???

Checkout the Gerber Legend series, in my case the model 800.

The Victorinox SwissTool is worth a look too.

I would recommend the Gerber Legend!
I'm even going to trade my Gerber Pro-Scout for one.

The only other one I was really impressed with was the Leatherman Wave.

I think the Swisstool is very well made but it is too heavy and the tools are alittle difficult to deploy.

Good luck,
Allen

There are lots of good ones out there. Personally, I recommend that you just look at everything offered by Leatherman and pick what best suits your needs. I have a Wave that I usually keep in the kitchen drawer and use around the house all the time. Of course, I'll also carry it around on my belt when needed and it always cuts the mustard. On camping trips, I usually stow the Wave in the pack and tote a single-bladed folder like my Endura. A lot of guys like the Swiss Tool, or the Gerber stuff or SOG or Buck. Honestly, I think they're all fine companies and wouldn't hesitate to carry their multi-tools. But I tend to stick with what I know, and I've had a Leatherman Supertool and, now, the Wave. Both are great (advantage goes to the Wave because you can open the knife blades one handed). YMMV

I'm a Wave man. It's a great knife. I carry it on the weekends for doing odd chores around the house. I have more solid multitools, but nothing nearly as convenient.

My weekday carry is actually a SAK. I really dig the Cybertool34. It doesn't have huge pliers, but great screwdrivers and stuff. It even has a bit to tighten the pivots on my knives. :) It's also light and portable.

There are very useful and comprehensive multiool reviews in the "gear and equipment" section of the Equipped to Survive site at www. equipped.org. The Wave gets a very good rating and there are considerable reservations about the Gerber Legend.

Two items that you are seeking in a multitool are a saw and a diamond file???
Well, in case you haven't noticed, :eek:the Wave:eek: has a saw and a diamond file that have easy access without opening the main tool.

I didn't see anyone mention this in any replies, so I thought that I would inform you. Can't help you with any other tools, I carry and use only Leatherman products. :D

I'd go with the Leatherman Supertool. It is just a very strong and well made multi-tool. It's not as convenient as the Wave (my next leatherman purchase) but I've used and mis-used mine for over 5 years now and it's still solid! Regards. -Rick

I prefer the Gerber 600 series because of the features and the ability to have them custom-built by Gerber, and everything locks in place, and they are pretty compact with the pliers retracting. Lack of blades doesn't really bother me, because I carry several knives anyway. I also like the SpydeWrenches a lot. If you want a wrench instead of pliers, go with it. Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the tools mentioned here.

mikebushfnp,if you need a tool for around the house, you can’t beat the Swiss champ for versatility, and the scissors are much better than on the wave, and generally you don’t have to worry about harming the soft screwdrivers on the wave. (Though curiously, the HRC isn’t different. For the Swiss army knife: 56c for the blades, 54c for the scissors, saw and file- with hard chrome coating, 53-2c for everything else except the corkscrew which stand at 49c- why?? The wave is also hardened between 49-55c, yet still manage to get nicks at every occasion).
But if you want to take it out, go with the wave.
I’m going with the Swiss champ, leatherman side clip and a shortened diamond rod in my wallet.

I also recently acquired a Gerber Legend 800 and it has replaced my Leatherman Wave as my mult-tool of choice.
