Need help sharpening Strider Sng

I am having a really hard time getting my Sng sharp enough to shave hair. I am using a Sharpmaker 30 Deg angle. I am able to get it sharp enough to hold an edge while running over my thumnail

The untouched factory sharpened blades on my other knives (SOG revolver, Spyderco Manix and the blades on my SOG powerlocks) are all sharper than my Strider as they can shave hair, cut through rope in a single swipe, and slice through paper with minimal pressure.

Is this simply a trade off for the thicker and tougher blade on the Sng? Or should I be able to get hair shaving performance? Should I send it to Strider to have them do it?
Thanks

If you're using the Sharpmaker at the 30 degree setting, you're probably not sharpening your SnG at all. They come from Strider with the bevel at ~40-45 degrees included. It took some serious effort with diamond hones to get mine down to 30 degrees (with a 40 degree micro-bevel).

I suggest sandpapaer and a leather hone. No need to worry about Degrees of angle. This picture shows the very obtuse factory edge on a SMF next to a Scary sharp thinner edge made with sandpaper and leather. I will let you decide which one will cut better. :)
