Need help sharpening the 940-1

So I wanted to sharpen my 940-1 with the Ken Onion work sharp. I've been going at it with the course belt trying to raise a burr. I'm trying to sharpen it at 20 degrees per side but no matter how many times I go I can't get the apex of the edge.

If the blade is CPM S90V, then I doubt the work sharp has a grit low enough or abrasive enough to make much impact on it. Diamond stones will sort you out.

The belts seem to be cutting through the metal fine enough on the shoulders, it just can't reach the very apex for some reason. Thanks for the help.

Maybe it’ll just take a while, if you are successfully removing metal on the shoulders. Might get through a few belts!

When I used the WSKO on S110V it took quite a while to raise the burr. I remember thinking there must be something wrong. I looked at the blade every 5 passes or so, just to make sure I wasn’t eating away metal at an alarming rate. It didn’t seem so, so I kept going. It seemed like forever at the time.

I typically go 17.5° and it takes a while, even with “lesser” steels. My belts are fairly worn at this point though. Even if your factory angle is 20°, changing over to a convex grind is going to take some degree of reprofiling.

I guess my point is that in my personal experience (FWIW/YMMV, etc.) setting the initial angle with the WSKO takes me longer than expected.
