Need help sharpening

Had a customer knife handled, blade wrapped in tape, ready for hand sanding.

had a friends kid in the shop with me last night. I turn around and he is using that knife Like a saw on a piece of sandpaper. I caught it in time, but he had just broken through the tape on the blade and just hit the edge lightly. But lightly enough to ruin the sharpness from the grinder.

how do I fix this? I can’t take it back to the grinder because the the handle is on, and I need to keep an even scratch pattern on the grind.

I don’t free hand grind, and use a tilt table.

It’s a scandi grind. Any help would be great.

What kind of handle? If you still have a flat area on the blade, you can just likely just hold it against a 1-2-3 block or piece of angle to keep it perpendicular to your work rest. Then angle your platen or rest accordingly to match your grind.

Naw, it’s a coke bottle handle. That won’t work. Was thinking about just adding a micro secondary bevel. It’s for my brother in law, so it’s not the end of the world.

Question,

How did you plan on sharpening knives once they go dull?

Valid question...:normally I should sharpen a scandi on wet stones, but, since this is a knife that I made and is going to the customer (brother in law) as new, I want the bevel to be as clean as possible. Using wet stones inevitably will ruin the grind/scratch pattern that I have on the bevel

Next time when you need to do that you can use double sided tape on blade to hold knife on jig .Scandi grind knife have lot flat surface on blade , so ......Or use CA glue .I use CA glue to grind with jig on all kitchen knife I make .........

Hot glue also works pretty well, though I'll usually just hold it by hand against my block, as it really doesn't take much pressure to keep it upright against the belt for sharpening. If the spine of the blade isn't in line with the handle such that you can lay the whole thing on a work rest, just make up a narrower work rest that just supports the blade, or you can just clamp a narrow block to your existing work rest that elevates the blade enough to clear the back side of the handle.
