--o0o--

if somebody has better
solution for me please reply

much thanx

ok, first off I found out really quickly that if you have something to say you have to spell it right, no instant message talk allowed I guess. im trying to save you from the trouble of explaining why its hard to get out of the habit.
ok now onto that knife, you said it was stainless? it says high carbon steel on the web page. why do you want stainless anyway? most of the commercial stainless blades are junk there not properly heat treated, nor do they even use good steel. if you really wants stainless get one of the makers here to make a blade for you, then it will actually be a knife, not a piece of steel shaped like one. By the web talk you are using you seem young? So im just curious how old are you? Are you planning on using this knife or just hanging it of your belt for mediviel faires?
If you plan on using it Id say buy that blade and put you handle on it. If not www.budkww.com is a good site for cheap stainless knives.

i am new 2 knife-making & so i intend
2 make dagger that will b immune 2 corrosion
although i have no feeling about how much
that blade can corrode (if this is a verb B) )
in case i just use it as fancy thing @ shelf,
also i would like fine knife instead of toy
if i only knew that is 4 sure i would buy
that blade

i am new 2 this forums 2, and
if i do not manage 2 buy readymade blade
i'll try to ask if somebody is interested
in making it
(i have no feeling about price in that case)

www.budkww.com does not
accept orders outside u.s.

again much thanx on advices
sorry on bad eng.

oh ok your foreign im sorry my mistake. a high carbon blade wont rust that badd all you gotta do is wipe off finger prints and give it a thin coat of oil before you store it for extended periods of time. so in other words get the high carbon its a good knife. if you need help making a handle email me at awesomearcher07@aol.com

Give him a break ,guys. He is new and not a native English speaker.
JAXUMEJL - Order yourself the catalogs from Texas Knifemakers Supply, K&G knife supply, and Koval. Order a kit knife or a blade blank and make yourself a knife. The catalogs have a little section titled ,"Making a kit knife" or "How to assemble a knife" (or something like that). There are several good books in the catalogs that teach knife making.A starter book often sold with a knife kit is "Make the knife you carry".
Texas knife supply offers their stainless blade blanks with cryogenic treatment. It may not matter to a first time maker, but it is a plus on the finished knife.
Make a few "semi-custom" knives, have some fun ,and welcome to knife making. - Stacy

hi

thanx :)

main idea was
> to take block of oak wood, drill a hole down
> in it and "epoxy" {whatever it means} the
> blade in the hole

ok not joke, i intend 2 make handle & folder
from oak wood. i plan to process,
(after drilling a hole for part of blade that goes
into the handle - tang) both parts handle & folder
on lathe (if eng. lathe is machine that rotate
wood fast so it can b figurated with gouge - chisel)
... so that on end the whole thing looks like
big! chess figure B)

now only i do not know
nice/stainless or tough/carbon

either would be a good choice, it mainly depends on the person that's buying....if you want stainless go for it, carbon just means you'll have to pay a little more attention to it, and if you're anything like me you won't be letting your first knife far out of your site for quite some time ;)

welcome to the forums too, there is almost too much info here, it can be confusing at times.

good luck finding what you want and enjoy it.
Steve

OK,
the NCK201 means that the threads on the knife tang will fit the pommel in the bottom right corner of that picture. NCK201 is the code for that pommel.
NCK516 is the code for the dagger.
The steel is Solingen. I dunno exactly what type this is, the last I heard is that it isn't any one steel, Just a place in germany where it originated. I hope to be corrected though. :D
Good luck,

That blade and pommel will work fine for what you intend to do. Good luck.

it really looks nice, i'll take couple days
2 re-think about stainless variant, but
i'll probably back to this wonderful! dagger

i read a lot tutorials in meantime & learn much
so i think i would prefer to build the dagger
without pommel - almost exactly like:

http://www.northcoastknives.com/northcoast_knives_tutorials_WoodenSheath.htm

(except design & type of wood)

blade & epoxy i will need,
in my town i can get epoxy, but they
use it for making some models also
for bathtubes (& such things)
as somewhat material similar 2 plastic
i do not know is this the epoxy i need!

i plan (if everything goes ok) that after getting
that blade (as in example link above) to cut
the screw on bottom of tang and then
put the tang into oak wood handle,
although because i plan to process wood on
lathe (as i said in post above) i thing maybe
i can only rill the handle without cutting in half
ant then put tang into & epoxy it but i am not
sure about how reliable would it b.

i am sorry if i am little annoying 2 u all
but i am display whole plan in case
of some mistakes. so any good advice
i would appreciate.

thank u all 4 help!!!

If the epoxy label says it can be used on wood or metal you should be fine. Try to stay away from the quick setting, 5 minute variety, and go with the longer setting type.

There is nothing wrong with drilling and shaping a hole into your handle material for a hidden tang. it can be made quite securely this way. If you want, and since that blade already has a hole in the tang, you could also pin the tang into the handle as I did on this knife.

North Coast also has a tutorial in which they drill the handle instead of mortising it. There are other ways to do it as well; here is one such.

Greg

i found 2 component bison epoxy in 2 variants:

1) universal epoxy - 4 many differnet materials
2) metal epoxy (salesman called it liquid metal)

¿which 1 to buy?

Jaxumejl, let us know what country you are living in.there are many international knifemakers who visit this forum and someone may be able to give you the correct brand name for your location.

I looked at the
Bison site and (while it's not that informative) I think you would be ok with either of those epoxies.
The universal one will dry to a fairly clear state (or could be colored by various means) and would be my choice if a glue line might be visible (ie: slab handles)..
The metal one reads a lot like JB Weld which I've used and like.
It will dry a grayish color and has a wider range of temperature resisitance than the universal. It should work well with a hidden tang.
Many makers are using JB Weld to install guards.

Greg

I recently sent a knife to Thailand and it was close to $25 via USPS Global Priority. If you are interested the USPS has a
Postage Rate Calculator.

As mentioned above by jaegar; Solingen is a cutlery center in Germany (much like Laguiole is in France) with many knife making companies vice a single one.

Linder makes a dagger with a blade similar
to the one above in stainless; perhaps they would sell the blade only to you (or tell you who might) if you contact them.

Greg
