My friend is strongly considering buying one of those fake china knock off striders because he likes how it looks, im trying to talk him out of it and get him to buy a nice quality brand but he says the only way he would do that is if i can show him something usa thats just as good (he is speaking in terms of a frame lock with g10 scale for 90 bucks) and im lost to help, iv bought a fake sebenza before and it turned out to be a terrible decision because it is junk now a few months later and a waste of 60 bucks, what should i show him in terms of good quality blades for that price to talk him out of it.

I dont want to just sit there and let him support that if i got a chance to change his opinion.

Sadly I was one of those people for MANY years as an LEO.

My thinking was that since I would ruin it or lose it anyway , it didnt matter as to quality.

After breaking too many and have them fail,I saw the light and from thence on I bought and used ONLY high end made in U S A or quality made German, etc.

I had to find my own way there, and yes many tried to steer me.

Good luck with your friend.

Something he will just have to learn on his own..... The hard way most likely and more than once.....

With price as main issue it's hard to reason with those types.

Neither is a Ti framelock, but the Manix 2 or Yojimbo 2 might sway him back to the light side of the force. Personally, I think the Superleaf is actually a pretty damn good poor man's Strider, but it's not USA made.

If you're worried about him losing a lot of money to a potentially crappy knife that he likes the look of, you can simply recommend a cheaper potentially crappy knife that he likes the look of. See "M-Tech Extreme Step-Son Folding Knife".

If you are trying to change his mentality on purchasing counterfeit goods, that's much more difficult.

Your friend will do whatever he has a mind to. I thought your mother bought you the Fauxbenza, a b-day gift as I recall?

I'd look at one of the Kershaw knives. Either the Junkyard Dog II or the Cryo. I don't have experience with these, but at least you won't be sending money off to counterfeiters. It takes time and money to develop well designed products and to knock them off is theft. Does he really want to send his money to thieves?

Or have him look at something like the Benchmade H&K Enigma. China made, but by a reputable company and not a counterfeit.

My vote goes towards the manix or even a griptilian. They don't have the frame lock, but the axis Style locks are awesome. Unfortunately he's most likely going to have to learn it the hard way. I'm pretty sure everyone has gone through that period where they think that just because it looks cool it is quality.

Spyderco Paramilitary 2? Even though it's not a Frame Lock - it's a hell of a knife for $100.

If he can deal with China made on a fake, then he can deal with China Made Quality.

Take a look at the Benchmade H&K Conspiracy. A tank of a Ti Frame Lock for around $70.

Wow! Another "suggest a knife" thread from you Chris Farms! Glad to hear all these threads have been suggestions for friends or for people you are buying gifts for and not you just incessantly carpet bombing us with threads.

It seems like you have plenty of knives...what about showing him something that you have that is nice?
