Greetings,
I thought the general knowledge here might be helpful.
Have a small antique sword I'm trying to identify & need sources to try, if anybody can suggest them.
Probably 1800s, curved & etched blade, brass guard with a rectangular pomel "crest" that anchors the lower guard to the hilt & unscrews. "Crest" appears to include an arm & war hammer at the top, and a horse or deer under a tree at the bottom. Looks like it might be a rayskin cover with 50% of the silver wire wrap remaining.
Knight's helm with plume, looks like a couple cannon among the etchings on the fullered single-edged blade.
I can't see any maker or hallmarks anywhere.
Were it not for the edge that retains some sharpness here & there, I'd assume ceremonial.
No scabbard.
I understand how vague this is. Any pointers? It could possibly have been transported across the plains to Utah with early Mormon settlers, but that's just a possibility. Came from an old house constructed of railroad ties & the family member still living in it has no clue on origin.
I do have three or four reference books on swords, but nothing helpful.
Thanks.
Denis
