Need help tracking down manufacturer

Hey all. First time in this subforum. I was at a big flea market the other day and noticed what looked to be a really quality hatchet if I spent a day or so refurbishing it, as opposed to the rust lollipops that comprise the bulk of the axes at such places.

I picked it up and noticed that it was single-bevel, like a chisel, which I had never seen before (a later search revealed this to be a carpenter's axe), but instantly knew it was just what I needed for roughing out some of my wood projects, cause my typical convex ground hatchet annoyingly bites into the wood.

So at this point I was really excited to get this thing home, carve out a new ash handle, make a sheath, clean up the edge, and so on. I asked how much, and the guy says 50 bucks. I was like what?!? He said it was a "collector's item". I tried to haggle but he didn't budge, so I left.

Stupidly I didn't think to note the manufacturer, but the logo was kind of a four-leaf clover shape, or perhaps more like a cross with circular ends. Anyone have any idea who made it? If so, is it really worth $50? It seemed very well-made, but just too high a price considering its condition.

Thanks a lot for your help.

That logo sounds familiar but I can't recall the specifics; there are lots of folks that collect handtools, axes, hatchets etc with the old hardware distributor names such as Keencutter, Bluegrass, , etc. They might pay $50 for an over cleaned "collectible." They are not looking for a useable tool. The flea market guy was waiting or a collector" :D

In my town at a flea market here they have a tru~temper hewning hatchet hanging up for $15 nice handle no nicks, this is a user, beater ready to let the chips fly, this was a week ago. if you look a around you can find a good hatchet,

if you want an old hatchet with the duck or dog or raven or 4 leaf clover be ready to lay out some bucks some of the old "grail" hatchets can fetch a hundred or two just to hang on the wall.

hope you find what you want, I find one here or there and then look for the next one. Pat

thanks for the replies guys...i went back to the fleamarket today and the manufacturer is ClearCut, and it is indeed a four-leaf clover logo with a circle around it, with their company saying or whatever in the circle...the guy this time actually put a price tag on it, still $50.00

the hatchet's been there for at least 6 weeks and is in worse condition than my initial greedy eyes gave it credit for...really rusted and dinged up...would someone actually pay $50 for it?
