Hey all. First time in this subforum. I was at a big flea market the other day and noticed what looked to be a really quality hatchet if I spent a day or so refurbishing it, as opposed to the rust lollipops that comprise the bulk of the axes at such places.
I picked it up and noticed that it was single-bevel, like a chisel, which I had never seen before (a later search revealed this to be a carpenter's axe), but instantly knew it was just what I needed for roughing out some of my wood projects, cause my typical convex ground hatchet annoyingly bites into the wood.
So at this point I was really excited to get this thing home, carve out a new ash handle, make a sheath, clean up the edge, and so on. I asked how much, and the guy says 50 bucks. I was like what?!? He said it was a "collector's item". I tried to haggle but he didn't budge, so I left.
Stupidly I didn't think to note the manufacturer, but the logo was kind of a four-leaf clover shape, or perhaps more like a cross with circular ends. Anyone have any idea who made it? If so, is it really worth $50? It seemed very well-made, but just too high a price considering its condition.
Thanks a lot for your help.
