Guys, I have a Bravo-1 I use as my go-to outdoors, general use knife. Sometimes it's a bit big for field dressing a Whitetail deer, and definitely too big for small game like squirrels, rabbits and the like.

I really like the Gunny but it's a bit more than I want to spend right now so I was looking at the Bravo Necker and one or two of the smaller knives from them like the Mini Fox River, etc. What I'd love is a knife I can neck carry or belt carry and that's big enough to be used for light camp chores, food prep and also for dressing out small game. I'd love to keep the price right around $100 or so. Neck carry isn't a requirement, but would be a benefit.

What do you guys have in this range and what are your likes/dislikes?

Thanks.

Some of their smaller blades look awesome in that Knives Ship Free (KSF) leather pocket paddle. You have probably seen them, some of the guys carry them EDC, and I think it would be nice to have a great slicer on an everyday basis. Good luck with your purchase!

I recently acquired a small Dave Farmer Nessmuk-type model in convexed 1095 that I'm using and really like.It was in your price range.--KV

Are you settled on Bark River? Nothing wrong with that, I have a few myself. But I've also been really impressed with the D2 Light Hunters from Queen. The #89 Canoe knife or the smaller #85 Trout Knife would be the size I'd select for the chores you listed.

Also look at Buck if price is a factor. The Woodsman and Pathfinder are two sizes I'd consider for carrying. The 420hc and phenolic handles are nothing fancy, but certainly functional and very durable.

AG Russell Bird and Trout? I can't say enough good things about those locking sheaths. And they're lightweight enough for neck carry.

I edc a psk or pro scalpel everyday in my back left pocket. I also keep a bravo Becker on the shoulder strap of my bag. Any one of the three would serve you well and be in your price range.

I decided to go with the Woodland. Fortunately I can get away with EDC'ing a bigger knife than most. It's definitely not a neck knife, but it should suit me well.

Thanks!

The Woodland Special is a great light duty knife. We have used it for all sorts of things-- camping, cleaning small game, cooking, etc and found it to be terrific!

I went with A2 and black canvas micarta. It was the cheapest option and since I plan on using it, I wasn't too worried about the color. I haven't even gotten the darn thing and I can already tell Barkies are gonna be a terrible/wonderful addiction. ;)

Well I got the Woodland and liked it okay, but the handle is a little small for me. I have been debating what to replace it with and decided on the Mini Fox River. I found a real nice one at one of the stocking dealers and am pretty sure that's the way I am going to go. I thought real hard about the North Star Companion, but decided the Mini Fox River might suit me better. I dunno why though, maybe the blade design. I'd love to have both!

Aren't the handles on the Woodland and the Mini Fox River the same?
BTW Big Mike got really big hands too.
On my A2 Woodland I have put on longer scales and this has increased the handle lenght in a positive way for big palms.

Regards
Mikael

If you like the Bravo, you sure would like the gunny. The gunny is my favorite fix blade. fits my hand like it eas made for it.

Did someone say something about addiction?

I decided to keep the Woodland and ordered a Gunny and a Northstar (it was on sale and my wife said it could be my Christmas present!). I wish the Woodland had a little more tip, but it will probably end up being my small game/small deer hunting knife and I'll use the Gunny more for EDC. I debated on the Northstar Companion and the Northstar but decided for less money and more blade, I'd go with the full-size knife. Looking forward to them both!

Mike's knives are not a bad addiction to have. His knowledge of the knife industry and HT is incredible. His knives are incredible value for quality level.

Looks like a Glen Eagle, a boot knife, a couple of BlackJack's, Golok, KSF Machete, Grasso Bolo I, three Bowie's, a Bravo-2, and a few smaller blades including a push dagger.

But I could be mistaken.
