hey everyone,

need some help with something I have been struggling with. I currently carry a Chris Reeve large sebenza (stars and stripes model) and a SAK. lately I have determined that the sebenza is just too big for my uses on an everyday basis. so I am looking for a new EDC, but I do have some VERY specific (probably even picky). my other EDC is a spyderco FRN delica, but it does not serve all my specs for a true EDC.

specs needed (required):
- metal handle (SS or titanium)
- tip-up carry, w/ low riding clip
- under 3" blade w/ American blade steel (154CM or S30V)
- completely American made
- no lock backs

based on these specs, I figure my only option is a Chris Reeve small sebenza. am I right on this?

any other suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks,

If you liked the large Sebbie and your looking for something smaller, then the small Sebbie sounds ideal!

I don't know if it's your only option, but it sure is a good one.

Of course, 2.75" is under 3" and that describes the Mnandi. For a small knife, it's a great little worker. It does have inserts on both titanium handle slabs, though.

You could clip it in a shirt pocket next to a couple of pens and no one would notice it.

Well you can go a .5" bigger on the blade and then have tip down and not up and get a Mini SOCOM elite. Just picked one up and and a very nicely put together knife. Don't understand the reasoning behind the screws they use but I will just get a pair of e ring pliers. This little knife has excellant blade to handle ratio and is razor sharp to boot. Extremely lite wt. and a frame lock that is solid as hell. Anyways food for thought. keepem sharp

I've got a small Sebenza in layaway at the local knife store for similar reasons. Get the Sebbie.

my large sebenza hangs out of my hand a small amount (1/8 in.) both front and back when holding it with a full fisted grip. i am 6'4", about 250 lbs., and can easily palm a basketball (basketball is a hobby of mine).

do any you think the small sebenza will be too small for my hand? i have never held/owned a small sebenza, just owned 2 large ones.

what do ya' think?

thanks,

Small Sebenza would be a great choice. I find anything around 3-3.25" to be perfect for EDC.

Other knives to look at would be something custom. Rick Hinderer's Flashover is an amazing knife. Tip-up or tip-down carry, fit and finish that is at least the equal of the Sebenza and ergos that I think are better. It's a little thicker too (blade and handles) so it has even a more solid feel to it.
