I need some help with a knife I found on the auction site.
I've been looking for this pattern for a long time and when this one popped up , I was ready to buy it.

But, I'm a little suspicious. From the research I've done, this knife was supposedly discontinued in 1979, yet the blade on this one has an '82 mark.
Also I've read they were not made in stainless, yet the main blade is marked "SS".
Can anyone give an opinion?

Also can anyone recommend a new knife with a similar pattern ? I'm most interested in the handle style, size ( about 3 3/4' closed) an most important is the clip style blade.

Thanks - Joe

I have one very similar to yours. It is stainless steel with brown jigged Delrin handles.

It is most definitely NOT 3 3/4" closed. More like 3 3/8".

It is essentially the same knife as the Case Barlow 62009 1/2, with a different bolster configuration. In fact, it is often called a "Barlow Jack" for that very reason, though that is a nickname and not the official pattern name.

Thank you

The size in the listing is close to what you say.

I only mentioned 3 3/4 because I was wondering if any other makers ( new production) have a similar pattern closer to 3 3/4's. I also like the clip blade.
Schatt & Morgan has a "Heavy Duty Jack" , but it's too big.

If you think the Case is OK, I might just go with that one.

The Case 6231 1/2 heavy jack is 3 3/4".
Also, take a look at the GEC 78 American Jack.

GEC American Jack is right up your alley, size wise.

If you want a current production Case jack knife in that general size with a large clip blade, then the Case Copperhead may fit that bill.

I have a pic of one with blue scales:

It comes in other colors than blue, that's just the one I happen to have a pic of. They are 3 7/8" closed. I don't think they have been offered in CV steel in a while, at least I haven't seen any recently.
