Got a few Busse and some Busse kin blades that have been users over the years and most all the finish is gone off them. I want to have them refinished specifically powder coated.

So my question is will powder coating a Busse or Busse kin blade @ 400 degrees for 30 minutes ruin the heat treating.

Thanks in advance.

The factory coating is a powder coating. so you should have nothing to worry about. 30 minutes sounds long, though, when my company made powder coatings I though the cure schedule was 15 - 20 minutes? No matter, really, as Jerry has said that INFI is safe up to 900F.

The Busse shop will refinish blades for you. You might at least get a quote from Garth before you send them elsewhere.

my cgfbm cost $30 to coat a year ago from busse. And safe up to 900F? SWEET!

Directly from the man himself:

As for INFI and temperature extremes, it is amazing. INFI is tempered at nearly 950 degrees. It does not begin to lose any significant hardness until it is held above 1050 degrees for a considerable amount of time. I have to believe that it would need to be extremely mishandled in order to do any noticeable damage.

I worked for a company where I powder coated miscellaneous on a line that traveled at 2' per minutes through a 60' oven at 400*. Then only way the coating would be damaged from the heat is if there wasn't enough powder on the item. But its very interesting to hear infi is good for 900-950* that's just phenomenal :)

I really appreciate the responses guys.

The ones I want to have refinished only include one Busse an FBM so that would be the only INFI. The other two are Swamp Rats a Crash Axe and a Ratweiler, so they are made of SR101 unless I'm mistaken.

So the INFI would be good to go no issues there. The main one I'm concerned about is my Ratweiler since it's differentially treated. I really don't want to screw up the temper on the Ratweiler, it's my favorite blade and gets the most use.

Thanks again for the info guys and if anyone could help me out on the SR101 , I would be grateful.

Thanks for the help again so far guys.

Anyone have a answer on the SR101 though. I would really appreciate it.
