Hey guys hope all is well

I apologize but my camera isn't very good therefore I can not take pictures at the moment.

Firstly I already contacted Crk and but am not sure if this really is a problem yet. I told them I would take pictures before doing anything really.

The blade is Bg42 made in 98 with double lugs. Have been using it for 8-9 months and just noticed this last month.

There is a really fine machine cut from the right thumb lug to the left thumb lug. It's starts of as diagonal curvature and a crescent on top of the blade back to a diagonal curvature. I'm quite sure this seems machine made, but do not know much about CRK to be sure.

Any help is appreciated till I find a good enough camera to take this pic.

take care eh

It is through and through, almost identical on both sides of the blade and the crack/line is smooth on the top of the blade.

is that why you think it may be "machine made"?

sounds like a stress fracture of some type to me. it shouldn't be there.

That happened to a BG42 Seb when I sent it in for double lugs. When it came back there was a very fine straight line (I could feel it with my fingernail) between the lugs perpendicular to the spine of the knife.

I sent some photos to CRK via email and eventually, I sent the knife back in. The bad news was that the blade had indeed cracked :(. The good news was that it was covered under warranty (even though I was not the original owner) and they replaced the cracked blade with a brand new S30V blade (They no longer stock BG42) with double lugs free of charge.

They were very polite and apologetic. And they got the knife back to me VERY fast. It's just a shame they are out of BG42.. (I honestly don't know which steel is better; I just wanted a BG42 Seb to compare with my S30V Seb). Anyway, I recommend you talk to CRK. Best of luck.

Have never seen one like this, but sounds more to me like the blade cracked when the stud was pressed in. Think this would result in a very fine, regular fissure.

If you really do think it's machine-made, consider what sort of machine tool could have made it... and how that tool would have been in use.

Thank you for all the help everyone.

I believe your right. The blade probably was cracked when the thumbstud was being pressed in. I bought it new about 8-9 months ago so I guess this came from the factory with a crack.

I guess my only option is to send it in, but I love Bg 42 and the smoothness of this knife.

I think I will contact CRK and see what can be done.

thanks a lot for the help guys

must have been old stock and CRK has not used BG42 for quite some time

Are we getting more trolls on the forum of late, or am I just noticing them more?

Thanks for the help guys. Heather has already stated previously that they would exchange the blade, and I'm more than happy with the customer service offered by CRk and also the help from all the forumites eh.

The customer service is one of the biggest reasons I love Crk knives, and can't wait to add a few more CRK tools to the stable.

take care

well you did say NEW and I ain't your bro!:jerkit:

Most of us who have been here any length of time are friends. That's a big reason we come here. So for him to address you as a friend was not meant as an insult.

Your use of the jerk-it smiley is, though. We would appreciate reserving that for Whine & Cheese.

Removed any foul content.

I'm sorry if I came off rude, the use of 'bro' rubbed me a bit wrong. I'm sorry if I offended anyone. :o
