Need help with a slip-joint for a best man gift.

I've been away from the forums for a while, so I'm not sure what is out there these days.

I would like to get a slip joint for my best man. That is all I've really seen him carry. He works in an office during the day, but spends an equal amount of time working on his farm. I'd like to get him something that he can use, will hold a decent edge, and not just end up in a drawer.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

How much are you thinking about spending and how quickly do you need it?

Congrats on the wedding!

One of the little single or two blade Sway Back Jacks by Case is my recommendation.

Well, I'd like to keep it at $75 and below. I'm not sure if that it realistic. I'd like to have it by mid June.

If you've actually seen him carry a slipjoint, why not try to get a good look at it, so you know what his taste runs to?

Case make a heck of a selection of small slippies in a very resonable price range. A nice CV Sway back as mentioned would be very nice, available in different scale materials.

And then there's the peanut...

Take a look at the Queen Dan Burke barlow. D2 carbon steel, burnt orange bone handle, 3.5 inches, two good blades and about $75.

The Case swayback gent is a very nice knife. It can also be had in a jack. It is a little smaller/shorter than the above barlow which might be a good thing working in an office setting. Both of them do have a cool wharncliffe blade and the prices are similar.

He would be happy with either and I think you would be equally as proud to gift either of them.

Close to Glock,

I would recommend a Queen Canoe in D2. I believe Knife Swapper (collectorknives.net) has that pattern. The canoe is a hefty blade, but slim enough to ride in the back pocket for office as well. I am sure with tax and shipping, you will still be slightly under your budget.

Canal Street 1/2 Moon Trapper, which is 3 3/4" single blade in a very good steel 14-4 CrMo.

Very slim in the pocket and comfortable enough for the office but with enough beef to it for farm work.
The blade lenght is long enough for cutting apples (the same as a 4 1/8" Case slimline trapper)
In wood, stag or bone, from $60 to $75

A piece with class

If he carries his knife to the office, he likely wants a smaller compact knife?

I would like to suggest two choices. Queen Cutlery Serpentine Jack in their Amber carved Bone. 8cm/ 3 three eighths" approx closed. Both blades have nail nicks on the same side. Mine came with superb finish, can't find a flaw and the D2 was even sharp, gasp....!It also looks nice just on the table or desk, fine small knife with a lot of ability.

The other would be CASE Medium Stockman 63032 Chestnut Bone CV. A bit bigger than the Queen and 3 blades but still no pocket buster in any sense of the word. Both these knives are under 50 USD, value and looks here.

Let us know what you got.
